The augmented reality company Xreal (formerly known as Nreal) today released a new product, Air 2 Ultra glasses, priced at US$699 (approximately RMB 5,005). This highly anticipated product is expected to begin shipping in March this year, with pre-orders open to developers starting today.
Compared with the $399 Air 2 launched by Xreal last year, the Air 2 Ultra is more comprehensive in functionality. It provides complete 6 degrees of freedom (6DOF) positional tracking and adopts Xreal’s consistent sunglasses style design. Users can not only watch TV programs or enjoy flat games on the projection screen through it, but also experience an immersive AR application experience.
According to my understanding, Xreal’s Air 2 Ultra is a high-end “spatial computing” device. It's very similar to earlier Light mixed reality devices, both with 6DOF tracking capabilities. Like other products in the Air series, Air 2 Ultra can present floating images in front of the user's eyes. Although its functions have been enhanced, the weight of Air 2 Ultra has also increased, reaching 80 grams, which is slightly heavier than Air 2’s 72 grams. However, the glasses can still connect to a variety of computing devices, including macOS and Windows computers, Samsung Android phones, and iPhone 15.
