10gen以为企业扩容数据库以实现大量数据存储和处理为目标。10gen由广告技术公司DoubleClick创始人兼CTO Dwight Merriman和前DoubleClick工程师、购物搜索ShopWiki创始人兼CTO Eliot Horowitz共同创立。
Merriman说,许多公司目前都在使用甲骨文系统处理大量的数据,但若遇到需要扩容的情况,就不得不再购买更多的服务器。这样不仅花费高昂而且存在风险。
