A new feature in Firefox 115 will allow middle-clicking on the new tab button to paste the contents of the clipboard, whether it's a URL or plain text. So, middle-clicking the New Tab button will open whatever is in the clipboard, no matter where the content was copied from, meaning it can come from any of your applications, plus the copied text will be used as expected Your default search provider opens.
In current versions of the Firefox browser, middle-clicking the New Tab button now opens a new tab just like when you left-click it, which was previously the case. Available on Chrome / Chromium web browser.
This feature will be implemented in the Firefox 115 browser version and is currently being pushed by Nightly (IT House Note: alpha status) channel users.
This feature will be enabled by default in Firefox 115, users can change browser.tabs.searchclipboardfor.middleclick in about:config
