South Korea’s Ministry of Science, Technology, Information and Communications stated on the 1st that the plan will be merged with the “Development Project to Explore the Core Potential of Artificial Intelligence” promoted by the Korea Information and Communications Planning and Evaluation Institute (IITP) by 2027, and 480 billion will be invested within 5 years. South Korean won (currently approximately 2.582 billion yuan) performs AI-related R&D.
According to the results of a previous AI demand survey, among the technology development projects promoted by the Korean government, more than 700 technologies require the support of AI. Among them, the Ministry of Science and Technology of South Korea has selected 120 core topics with global competitiveness such as battery electrolytes and vegetable seed development for key support, including public areas such as health, transportation, finance, culture, and commerce that are closely related to the quality of national life. As well as new energy and manufacturing fields related to the development of national strategic technologies and criminal investigation fields that improve investigation efficiency and help solve cases.
IITP said that taking the battery field as an example, lithium battery capacity limitations and fire hazards are current problems. If AI simulation can be used to measure safety hazards, companies can save a lot of time and fully invest in production.
The Ministry of Science and Technology of South Korea plans to pair experts in various fields with AI experts to deepen professional knowledge and technology in various fields of AI within 3 years, and further promote integrated research and development. Each year, approximately 2 billion won will be invested in each field (currently approximately 1076 million yuan).
