Technical challenges and resource constraints: Apple AR glasses face difficulties

According to Bloomberg, Apple is expected to take at least four years to launch augmented reality (AR) glasses. This AR glasses is a product that Apple CEO Tim Cook and former design director Jony Ive have always expected to launch. However, due to technical limitations, they had to lower their expectations and instead develop the current "Ski" It is a "mirror" type head-mounted device that uses video transparent transmission technology.

In the process of developing head-mounted devices, Apple has long realized that it is unrealistic to build powerful AR glasses. Engineers are said to have calculated that Apple's glasses must provide the same performance as the iPhone while using only one-tenth of the iPhone's battery to avoid overheating problems.

ITBEAR Technology Information has learned that former Dolby executive Mike Rockwell has joined Apple to lead the head-mounted device development project. Rockwell has always said that the device is to lay the foundation for future AR glasses and strive for more resources, but Apple has provided limited resources for the project.

An employee involved in the project revealed to Bloomberg that there was a joke within the project team that Apple continued to develop this seemingly "hopeless" device just to make Tim Cook happy. Although Apple had made no substantial progress in AR glasses as of 2019, at an all-hands meeting later that year, Rockwell allegedly told more than 100 employees that Apple might be launching its first headset. Launch smart glasses within a year of wearing the device.

Eventually, Apple reportedly delayed development of a major standalone glasses product, and the project was all but halted. It is said that it will be at least four years before Apple launches any similar product.

We need to wait at least four more years before Apple’s AR glasses equipment can be launched. The decision to develop the headset was somewhat controversial within the company, despite technical challenges and resource constraints. For consumers and the technology community who are looking forward to Apple's AR glasses, they need to be more patient and wait for the advent of this innovative product.
