How to convert a three-dimensional array into a two-dimensional function in PHP

Apr 25, 2023 am 10:32 AM

In PHP development, we often use arrays, and in the use of arrays, multi-dimensional arrays also often appear. Three-dimensional arrays are inevitable, but it is obviously not user-friendly to display three-dimensional arrays, so we often need to convert three-dimensional arrays into two-dimensional arrays. Today we will talk about how to convert a three-dimensional array to a two-dimensional array in PHP.

First of all, we need to clarify what a three-dimensional array and a two-dimensional array are. In PHP, an array can contain another array, which means that PHP can have multi-dimensional arrays. A three-dimensional array refers to a two-dimensional array containing a one-dimensional array, or a one-dimensional array containing another two-dimensional array. A two-dimensional array refers to an array that contains multiple one-dimensional arrays.

Next, let’s explain in detail how to convert a three-dimensional array into a two-dimensional array. In PHP, we can use nested foreach loops to traverse three-dimensional arrays, as shown below:

foreach ($array as $key1 => $value1) {
   foreach ($value1 as $key2 => $value2) {
      foreach ($value2 as $key3 => $value3) {
            //这里进行二维数组的操作
      }
   }
}
Copy after login

Each level of loop traverses the corresponding one-dimensional array, so that the entire three-dimensional array can be traversed. But if we want to convert a three-dimensional array into a two-dimensional array, we need to create a new two-dimensional array in the inner loop and add the key-value pairs of each one-dimensional array to it. This process can be completed through a function, as shown below:

function convert($array){
  $result = array();
  foreach ($array as $key1 => $value1){
    foreach ($value1 as $key2 => $value2){
      $row = array();
      foreach ($value2 as $key3 => $value3){
        $row[$key3] = $value3;
      }
      $result[] = $row;
    }
  }
  return $result;
}
Copy after login

The function of this convert function is to convert a three-dimensional array into a two-dimensional array. In the outer two loops, we iterate through the entire three-dimensional array, and in the inner loop, we create a new one-dimensional array and add the key-value pairs of each one-dimensional array to it. Then add this new one-dimensional array to the $result array, and finally return this new two-dimensional array.

After completing the above operations, we can convert a three-dimensional array into a two-dimensional array. As can be seen, this method is very simple and easy to understand. Of course, in actual development, we also need to consider the actual situation of the data and perform some optimizations to improve efficiency.

In short, converting a three-dimensional array to a two-dimensional array in PHP is not complicated. You only need to use a nested foreach loop and some array operations. When we need to display a three-dimensional array to the user or perform some other operations during the development process, we can use this method to convert it into a two-dimensional array that is more convenient to operate and easier to understand.
