How to hide Golang's source code

Apr 05, 2023 pm 01:48 PM

As more and more applications are written in modern languages, the code needs to be protected from unauthorized access. As a fast and secure programming language, Golang comes with quite a few pre-installed security features and is worth considering. In this article, we’ll cover how to hide Golang’s source code to protect it from unauthorized access.

1. Compile to binary file

Compiling Golang code into binary file is one of the easiest ways to hide source code. Compile the Go code into an executable file using the following command:

GOOS=linux GOARCH=amd64 go build -o main main.go
Copy after login

Set GOOS to the name of the target operating system and GOARCH to the architecture name of the target operating system, such as linux and amd64, main.go is the source code file to be compiled, main is the file name of the binary file to be generated.

Using this method the source code files can be hidden, but the compiled binaries can be reverse engineered without encryption to regenerate the source code.

2. Use a code obfuscator

Code obfuscators are tools that can be used to modify source code to make it difficult to read. The interleaving and randomization of obfuscation techniques increase the difficulty of viewing and analyzing the source code.

There are several Golang code obfuscators available, such as go-obfuscator, gofuscate, etc. Using these tools can make the resulting binaries difficult to analyze and protect the source code.

3. Use virtualization technology

Using virtualization technology is also a way to hide source code. In this case, the Golang code is put into a virtual machine (VM) and the VM is exported into a binary file. This will make the files more difficult to reverse engineer and protect the source code.

Some Golang VM tools can be used for this purpose, such as Yaegi, which interprets Golang code into virtual machine bytecode and can compile it into binaries.

Although virtualization technology is an effective approach, it can slow down application performance and is not suitable for all situations.

Summary

The above are several ways to hide Golang source code. Although each method has its own advantages and disadvantages, they are all effective in protecting source code from unauthorized access.

Using any of the above techniques can improve the security of your application. However, do not abuse these techniques as they may make the application unstable or difficult to maintain.

Always remember that the best way to protect your code is to release high-quality code to protect against possible attacks, and to keep the software updated to eliminate known vulnerabilities.
