Coming in hot today, following an official Xbox blog announcement, are a standard wireless controller themed around the Slayer themselves, alongside a premium, translucent Elite Wireless Series 2 pad that channels Hell itself. To complete the set, Microsoft has made another console wrap, following its Black Ops 6 cover that dropped last year. Together, this trio is probably the most substantial official drop we’ve seen for the console in a long time.

Take it from this guy, who bought the beautiful Starfield limited-edition Xbox controller, headset, and console wrap for over $200, only to play the game and dump it after 20 boring hours. As stunning as the Starfield creations still are, they’ve lost their shine because of the game; the same can’t be said for these DOOM outings, which are timeless for the wider franchise, and won’t be affected by the low chance that The Dark Ages will be bang average. The standard-edition Dark Ages controller is right up there with the OG Master Chief pad for Halo 5, or the gorgeous Color Run-esque offering for Forza Horizon 5 — iconic.

The wireless standard DOOM controller comes in a lovely battle-worn green and silver finish to reflect the Slayer’s armor. It has 3D, raised silver helmet spikes at the top, complemented by silver-plated side panels (the color, not the precious metal). The right-side red thumbstick pays homage to the chest port, and there’s a comic blood splatter across the top-left of the pad to salute the all-new Shield Saw. Rubber grip fans rejoice: It’s also got a leather-like finish on the back.

As a minor bonus, much like the FH5 controller’s exclusive Ford De Luxe, this pad gives you the DOOM Slayer Executioner Skin DLC, which gives an armor set for the game.

If you’re in the market for an Elite Series 2 controller (even though I’d heartily recommend the Victrix Pro BFG), the Dark Ages edition has a transparent red top case with ember-style flakes, featuring the Mark of the Slayer symbol in the center.

It’s a high-end option, but has the expected adjustable-tension thumbsticks and hair trigger locks, plus interchangeable paddles and thumbsticks, and a carry case.

Last but not least, the console wrap — which more or less reflects the Elite controller, as a cheeky upsell to big spenders — looks like some sort of goth monolith, complete with the Mark of the Slayer inscribed on a stone-effect finish. As someone who has one of these, there are absolutely zero issues with overheating, and the Velcro seal fits around the back.

It’s $55, so you’ll need to have your console on display to get the most out of it. I bought the Starfield one to match my PS5, and it still looks great; if you’re a fan, it’s a nice way to add a bit of flair to the console, but given it’s practically the same color as the standard Series X, it’s not something I’d jump for.

I have too many controllers — half slightly broken (one’s got a busted RB, another has stick drift, and my FH5 pad’s Xbox button has been sticky from day one) — but chances are that I’ll snap up the standard (limited) edition DOOM: The Dark Ages pad. I need to claw back some credibility from the Starfield debacle, but that new design deserves to hang in the Louvre.
