CSS-Tricks Chronicle XXXVIII

This month's roundup covers recent activities and news I haven't had a chance to share yet. This includes guest appearances, updates on other projects, and some exciting announcements!

I recently participated in Admission Online, an online conference hosted by Tito. My talk is available to view among other presentations on their platform. I previously discussed Tito (a fantastic conference management tool) on ShopTalk last year. Their impressive pivot to Vito, a platform for rapidly creating online conferences, is particularly noteworthy given the challenges of the pandemic. If you're organizing an online event, check out Vito!

Jina Anne is also making waves in the online event space with her 30-minute AMAs (Ask Me Anything) sessions featuring various experts. These sessions cost $5 and include live access and Q&A. Past events are available on YouTube, including one featuring myself.

I was also a guest on the Balance the Grid podcast. One interesting exchange focused on productive habits: I emphasized the importance of focusing on work with lasting value, citing blogging as an example of creating enduring content.

At CodePen, we've been incredibly busy, focusing on our long-term vision despite the ongoing pandemic. We've been developing several community features, including three additions to the "Following" page: a "Recent" feed, a "Top" feed (a ranked popularity feed limited to those you follow), and personalized follow suggestions. This significantly enhances the user experience.

We've also made progress on "Custom Editors," expanding CodePen's capabilities beyond the standard editor. We've already launched editors for Flutter and Vue Single File Components.

While I usually discuss my experience at the Smashing Conference around this time, in-person events have been rescheduled. I'm currently planning to attend the Austin and San Francisco events later this year, but the situation remains fluid. However, Smashing's online workshops, many of which are extensive multi-week courses, are a great alternative.

Many conferences are transitioning online, expanding accessibility globally. Upcoming virtual events include All Day Hey, Jamstack Conf, and CascadiaJS.

Finally, I was a guest on the Coding Zeal podcast; you can find the episode here [link to BuzzSprout episode].
