What is a Savage Raid?

FFXIV raids typically involve single-enemy encounters, though some exceptions exist (like Criterion Dungeons or Alliance Raids). Savage raids are enhanced versions of Normal raids, taking the existing framework and significantly increasing the difficulty. While sharing some similarities with Normal mode, Savage introduces entirely new mechanics and presents a more punishing experience for failures. Essentially, Normal mode acts as a blueprint, with Savage representing a far more challenging and rewarding outcome. Completing a Savage raid yields high-tier raid gear (generally considered BiS for approximately eight months), a mount, and the satisfaction of conquering a significant challenge.

Unlocking the Savage Raid:

Unlocking Savage mode is conveniently located near the Normal mode unlock. Instead of speaking to Black Cat (for Normal mode), you'll need to find Gabbro.

Gabbro is situated just outside Black Cat's training area, at coordinates X: 22.2 Y: 17.0 on the True Vue Aethernet Shard map. Simply travel to True Vue via the Aethernet and head east; Gabbro will be to the right of Black Cat's area. While appearing as a quest marker, interacting with Gabbro initiates a short dialogue, immediately unlocking the Savage raid tier. This is similar to the unlock process for Extreme Trials.
