Ampere's first developer summit: Cloud native processors lead the future of computing
Ampere held its first Developer Summit on September 26, 2024, with developers and innovators from all over the world gathering (online) to explore in-depth cloud architecture migration and how Ampere® cloud native processors are shaped The future of computing. Vikrant Soman, an Uber cloud infrastructure engineer, points out the topic: "The powerful hosting capabilities of Ampere CPUs can provide the same or higher throughput as existing processors, so don't blindly believe in benchmark results. Run your own work Load, see what changes will happen to your total cost analysis.”
The summit was delivered by Pete Baker of Ampere Computing and delivered an opening keynote speech. Eight partner representatives participated in four in-depth technical links, highlighting the challenges and benefits of migrating real-world applications to Ampere hardware cloud instances. All sessions have been recorded and are now available for viewing on Ampere's YouTube channel and developer playlists.
You can watch each 30-minute session to learn about the following:
- Opportunities and Challenges for Hybrid Architecture Construction and Deployment: Ampere's Pete Baker shared in his keynote speech the tools and methods to improve the migration experience using the Ampere platform.
- The importance of cloud native processors to energy efficiency, performance and sustainability: Ampere chief evangelist Sean Varley, with Fermyon's Kate Goldenring and ScyllaDB CEO Dor Laor. They discussed how Ampere's high core density and energy-efficient processors are ideal for modern applications, including using Kubernetes and distributed databases.
"
Save costs by 60% while maintaining performance by switching to WebAssembly and adding Ampere Arm nodes to the cluster." Kate Goldenring – Fermyon
- What workloads and applications are best for Ampere CPUs? Ampere Vice President of Customer Engineering, hosted by Naren Nayak, Vikrant Soman of Uber and Dmitry Polyakovsky of Oracle. This section explores the types of workloads that benefit the most on Ampere CPUs, including AI, stateless cloud workloads, and high-performance caching services.
"Arm no longer operates in isolation, its ecosystem goes hand in hand with x86 ISA." Vikrant Soman – Uber
- How cloud native CPUs achieve optimal computing and enhance AI reasoning at lower cost: Ampere's Victor Jakubiuk hosted, Amar Gowda, senior chief product manager at Oracle, and Steve Notley, Director of Field Engineering at Wallaroo. participate. In this section, they explore how Ampere processors can optimize costs, performance, improve the introduction to learning models, and reduce the cost of running AI inference workloads in the cloud.
"By deploying the Wallaroo.AI package, Llama.cpp quantization model, and leveraging the Ampere accelerator on the OCI A1 machine, we can see that the inference speed is doubled compared to the equivalent x86 deployment. " Steve Notley – Wallaroo.AI
- Insights on Migrating from Traditional Architecture in Hybrid Architecture Environments: Ampere Developer Relations Director Dave Neary, with Stackable's Maximilian Wittich and Uber's Andreas Winther Lykke. This section shares the nuances of adding a new architecture, including practical suggestions for rebuilding and testing software on it, packaging software, and managing daily operations in production.
"We certainly had some problems, but these were relatively easy to solve. I think we've actually built around 3000 services in a few weeks." Andreas Winther Lykke – Uber
Ampere's cloud-native processors are built for sustainable cloud computing and provide predictable high performance, platform scalability and energy efficiency. This is good for developers, your wallet and our planet.
