Where To Find The Chicken Hat

You can find the Chicken Hat early on in the game. All you have to do is head to Northdell Farm.

You don't have to have any previous quests completed. You don't even need to have visited the nearby town yet.

Northdell Farm is east of your farm. Follow the natural path east and then take the first south path you see. From Brightoak, you will want to head up the north path near the end of town. This will lead you right into Northdell Farm.
