用不用模板引擎，这取决于团队的喜好。没错，就是团队的喜好，模板引擎的支持派和反对派都能给你列出一堆用或者不用的理由，谁也别想说服谁。
如果选择不用模板引擎，就用流程控制的替代语法。
如果打算用模板引擎，可以考虑酷一些的模板引擎，如twig。
死都不用Smarty
程序和模板分离 肯定是要的。
现在大部分框架都自带模板引擎。

模板太多，一个模板一个语法，还不如直接上php代码
