PHP file reading fread, fgets, fgetc, file_get_contents and file function usage example code

fgets fread

fread(), fgets(), fgetc(), file_get_contents() and file() functions are used to read content from files.

fread()

fread() function is used to read files (safe for use with binary files).

Syntax:

string fread( int handle, int length )
Copy after login

fread() Reads up to length bytes from the file pointer handle. Reading of the file will stop when any of the following conditions are encountered:

  • When up to length bytes have been read

  • When the end of file (EOF) is reached

  • (for network streams) when a packet is available

  • or (when opening a userspace stream After) 8192 bytes have been read

Read 10 bytes from the file (including spaces):

<?php
$filename = "data.txt";
$fh = fopen($filename, "r");
echo fread($fh, "10");
fclose($fh);
?>
Copy after login

Tip

If you just want to read the contents of a file into a string, you should use file_get_contents() with better performance.

fgets()

fgets() function is used to read one line of data from the file and point the file pointer to the next line.

Tip: If you want to remove the HTML tags in the file when reading, please use the fgetss() function.

Syntax:

string fgets( int handle [, int length] )
Copy after login

fgets() Reads a line from the file pointed to by handle and returns a string with a length of at most length-1 bytes. Stops on a newline character (included in the return value), EOF, or after length-1 bytes have been read. If length is not specified, it defaults to 1K, or 1024 bytes.

Example:

<?php
$fh = @fopen("data.txt","r") or die("打开 data.txt 文件出错!");
// if条件避免无效指针
if($fh){
    while(!feof($fh)) {
        echo fgets($fh), &#39;<br />';
    }
}
fclose($fh);
?>
Copy after login

Supplementary instructions

feof() function tests whether the file pointer reaches the end of the file. The file pointer must be valid. If it is an invalid resource, then Will get stuck in an infinite loop. See "PHP File Pointer Function"

fgetc()

fgetc() function is used to read file data word by word until the end of the file.

语法:

string fgetc( resource handle )
Copy after login

例子:

<?php
$fh = @fopen("data.txt","r") or die("打开 data.txt 文件出错!");
if($fh){
    while(!feof($fh)) {
        echo fgetc($fh);
    }
}
fclose($fh);
?>
Copy after login

file_get_contents()

file_get_contents() 函数用于把 整个文件 读入一个字符串,成功返回一个字符串,失败则返回 FALSE。

语法:

string file_get_contents( string filename [, int offset [, int maxlen]] )
Copy after login
参数说明:
参数 说明
filename 要读取的文件名称
offset 可选,指定读取开始的位置,默认为文件开始位置
maxlen 可选,指定读取文件的长度,单位字节

例子:

<?php
// 读取时同事将换行符转换成 <br />
echo nl2br(file_get_contents('data.txt'));
?>
Copy after login

file()

file() 函数用于把 整个文件 读入一个数组中,数组中的每个单元都是文件中相应的一行,包括换行符在内。成功返回一个数组,失败则返回 FALSE。

语法:

array file( string filename )
Copy after login

例子:

<?php
$lines = file(&#39;data.txt&#39;);
// 在数组中循环并加上行号
foreach ($lines as $line_num => $line) {
    echo "Line #{$line_num} : ",$line,'<br />';
}
?>
Copy after login

test.txt 文件内容:

你好!
这是第二行文字。
Copy after login

浏览器显示:

Line #0 : 你好!
Line #1 : 这是第二行文字。
Copy after login

Explain JSON Web Tokens (JWT) and their use case in PHP APIs. Explain JSON Web Tokens (JWT) and their use case in PHP APIs. Apr 05, 2025 am 12:04 AM

JWT is an open standard based on JSON, used to securely transmit information between parties, mainly for identity authentication and information exchange. 1. JWT consists of three parts: Header, Payload and Signature. 2. The working principle of JWT includes three steps: generating JWT, verifying JWT and parsing Payload. 3. When using JWT for authentication in PHP, JWT can be generated and verified, and user role and permission information can be included in advanced usage. 4. Common errors include signature verification failure, token expiration, and payload oversized. Debugging skills include using debugging tools and logging. 5. Performance optimization and best practices include using appropriate signature algorithms, setting validity periods reasonably,

How does session hijacking work and how can you mitigate it in PHP? How does session hijacking work and how can you mitigate it in PHP? Apr 06, 2025 am 12:02 AM

Session hijacking can be achieved through the following steps: 1. Obtain the session ID, 2. Use the session ID, 3. Keep the session active. The methods to prevent session hijacking in PHP include: 1. Use the session_regenerate_id() function to regenerate the session ID, 2. Store session data through the database, 3. Ensure that all session data is transmitted through HTTPS.

Describe the SOLID principles and how they apply to PHP development. Describe the SOLID principles and how they apply to PHP development. Apr 03, 2025 am 12:04 AM

The application of SOLID principle in PHP development includes: 1. Single responsibility principle (SRP): Each class is responsible for only one function. 2. Open and close principle (OCP): Changes are achieved through extension rather than modification. 3. Lisch's Substitution Principle (LSP): Subclasses can replace base classes without affecting program accuracy. 4. Interface isolation principle (ISP): Use fine-grained interfaces to avoid dependencies and unused methods. 5. Dependency inversion principle (DIP): High and low-level modules rely on abstraction and are implemented through dependency injection.

What are Enumerations (Enums) in PHP 8.1? What are Enumerations (Enums) in PHP 8.1? Apr 03, 2025 am 12:05 AM

The enumeration function in PHP8.1 enhances the clarity and type safety of the code by defining named constants. 1) Enumerations can be integers, strings or objects, improving code readability and type safety. 2) Enumeration is based on class and supports object-oriented features such as traversal and reflection. 3) Enumeration can be used for comparison and assignment to ensure type safety. 4) Enumeration supports adding methods to implement complex logic. 5) Strict type checking and error handling can avoid common errors. 6) Enumeration reduces magic value and improves maintainability, but pay attention to performance optimization.

Explain late static binding in PHP (static::). Explain late static binding in PHP (static::). Apr 03, 2025 am 12:04 AM

Static binding (static::) implements late static binding (LSB) in PHP, allowing calling classes to be referenced in static contexts rather than defining classes. 1) The parsing process is performed at runtime, 2) Look up the call class in the inheritance relationship, 3) It may bring performance overhead.
