Bavo announced his departure this morning in a LinkedIn post: "After 18 years at Google, today is the day to share that I and my old friend Brett - Taylor co-founded the company."

He will stay on until March and "focus on helping my teams and projects transition and finish well at Google."

According to 9to5Google, Google’s work on AR will now be led by Hiroshi Lockheimer and Rick Osterloh. Sources said the AR work previously handled by Bavo will be moved to Lockheimer's Platforms and Ecosystems unit and Osterloh's Devices and Services unit. Therefore, there will be no direct replacement for Bavo's role.
