vue End-to-end testing cypress

Using Cypress for end-to-end testing in Vue can help us better validate our applications and detect potential errors and defects. Cypress is a JavaScript end-to-end testing framework that can test the functionality of web applications. In this article, we will cover how to use Cypress with Vue for end-to-end testing.

Step 1: Install Cypress

First, we need to install Cypress, which can be installed through npm. Open a terminal and run the following command:

npm install cypress -D
Copy after login

Step 2: Configure Cypress

After the installation is complete, we need to do some configuration to adapt Cypress to our Vue application. Cypress's default test folder is in cypress/integration, so we need to change it to the folder of the Vue application. We can change the folder by setting the integrationFolder property in the cypress.json file. The sample code is as follows:

{
  "integrationFolder": "tests/e2e/specs"
}
Copy after login

We also need to set the port and base URL for Cypress so that it can communicate with our Vue application. Set the following properties in cypress.json:

{
  "baseUrl": "http://localhost:8080",
  "port": 3000
}
Copy after login

Step 3: Create a test file

Now that we have completed the configuration of Cypress, we can create our first Test file. We need to create a new file in the cypress/integration folder, for example hello.spec.js, and enter the following code:

describe('HelloWorld.vue', () => {
  it('displays greeting', () => {
    cy.visit('/')
    cy.contains('h1', 'Hello World!')
  })
})
Copy after login

This test needs to open our Vue application and verify that there is a h1 element titled Hello World!.

Step 4: Run the test

We have created the test file and can now run the test. Run the following command in the terminal:

npm run cypress:open
Copy after login

This will open Cypress’s test runner, where we select our test file and click the run button. Our test will be executed in Cypress and the test report will be displayed after the test is completed.

Conclusion

Through the above steps, we learned how to use Cypress in Vue for end-to-end testing. Cypress provides a rich API and tools to easily verify the functionality of web applications. End-to-end testing with Cypress helps minimize bugs in our applications to better serve our users.
