Use brew to install Golang on Mac

Golang, also known as Go, is a statically typed, compiled, concurrent, and concurrency-safe programming language developed by Google. It is increasingly used in modern web applications because it runs very fast and supports high concurrency. If you are a Golang developer or plan to become a Golang developer, then installing Golang on your Mac is a must-have. This article explains how to install Golang on Mac using brew.

Step 1: Install Homebrew
Homebrew is a very popular package manager that can make the software installation process on Mac easier. If you have not installed Homebrew, you can use the following command on the terminal to install it:

 /bin/bash -c "$(curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Homebrew/install/master/install.sh)"
Copy after login

This command will install Homebrew. If you have already installed it, you can skip this step.

Step 2: Check if brew is updated
After the installation is completed, you can use the following command to check if Homebrew is updated:

 brew update
Copy after login

Step 3: Install Golang
Before installing golang, we We need to first check whether the following command can find the formula of Go:

brew search golang
Copy after login
Copy after login

If we can see the formula of Golang, we can directly use the following command to install it:

brew install golang
Copy after login
Copy after login

If in the previous step If the Golang formula is not found, then we can first use the following command to reset Homebrew:

brew update-reset
Copy after login

Then use the following command to re-search Golang:

brew search golang
Copy after login
Copy after login

If Golang can be found, continue to use it. Install with the following command:

brew install golang
Copy after login
Copy after login

Step 4: Set the GOPATH environment variable
After the installation is completed, we need to set the GOPATH environment variable to start using Golang. GOPATH is the root directory where Golang projects are stored. It is an environment variable and can be set by the following command:

export GOPATH=$HOME/go
Copy after login
Copy after login

If you want to set the GOPATH environment variable as a permanent environment variable, you can add it in the ~/.bashrc file The following code:

export GOPATH=$HOME/go
Copy after login
Copy after login

Step 5: Test installation
After the installation is completed, we need to verify whether Golang is correctly installed on your Mac. On the terminal, check the Golang version using the following command:

go version
Copy after login

If all goes well, you should be able to see the Golang version number.

Conclusion
In this article, we introduced how to install Golang on Mac using brew. Installing Golang is an extremely important task as it allows you to develop and run efficient applications on your Mac, and the use of brew can make this process easier and simpler. Hope this article can be helpful to you.
