iPhone 6 Plus added to Apple's list of 'retro products'
Apple today updated its list of old and obsolete products to add the iPhone 6 Plus, as it's been more than five years since the device last went on sale.
The iPhone 6 Plus was first released in September 2014 alongside the iPhone 6, and was discontinued in September 2016 following the launch of the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. The iPhone 6 Plus' sister phone, the iPhone 6, is currently not on the vintage list because it has been on sale longer.
Apple re-launched the iPhone 6 as a mid-range iPhone in 2017, and it was available for purchase until September 2018, so it would be about two years before it was designated as legacy.
iPhone 6 and 6 Plus are the first devices to support Apple Pay and mark the first time Apple offers iPhone in multiple sizes. Apple has continued its multi-size launch strategy since the launch of the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus.
The vintage products list contains devices that Apple stopped selling more than five years ago and less than seven years ago. Apple provides service and parts for older devices for up to 7 years, or as required by law, but repairs are subject to parts availability.
Back in 2019, with the launch of iOS 13, Apple stopped software update support for the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus.
