APT is an installation package management tool under Linux and a client/server system. As part of its operation, APT uses a file that lists the mirror site addresses where software packages are available. This file is /etc/apt/sources.list.

How to install MySQL using the APT library

Add APT warehouse

  1. Visit https://dev.mysql.com/downloads/repo/apt/.

  2. Choose to download the deb package suitable for your platform.

  3. Execute the following command to install the downloaded software package.

  4. sudo dpkg -i /PATH/version-specific-package-name.deb
    Copy after login

Replace version-specific-package-name.deb with the name of the downloaded package.

  5. During installation, you need to select the version of mysql server and components. If you are unsure of the version, do not change the default version. If you do not want to install a certain component, select none. After selecting, select OK to complete the installation.

  6. After the installation is complete, you can also modify the mysql version by selecting the release version.

  7. You can use the following command to update the package.

  8. apt-get update
    Copy after login
    Copy after login
    Copy after login

In addition to using the released deb package, you can also manually add the APT warehouse yourself. For details, see https://dev.mysql.com/doc/mysql-apt-repo-quick-guide/en/index.html#repo-qg-apt-repo-manual-setup

Note: MYSQL Once the APT repository takes effect, you cannot install any MYSQL package from the system's own software library.

APT install MYSQL

Use the following command to install mysql:

apt-get install mysql-server
Copy after login

The command to install the mysql client and database ordinary file is similar to the above command.

During the installation process, you need to provide a root user password (need to remember).

Tip: If you want to set a password later, you can not provide a password, select ok, and continue the installation. In this case, root can connect to mysql through Unix socket file and authorize through Socket Peer-Credential Pluggable Authentication. You can set the root password through mysql_secure_installation in the future.

Start and stop mysql server

After the Mysql server is installed, it will start automatically. You can use the following command to check the status of the Mysql server:

service mysql status
Copy after login

Use the following command to stop Mysql Server operation:

service mysql stop
Copy after login

Use the following command to start Mysql server

service mysql start
Copy after login

Use the following command to restart Mysql server

service mysql restart
Copy after login

Note: Some dependencies on the native MySQL package Third-party native repository packages may not work with MySQL APT repository packages. For example: konadi-backend-mysql, handlersocket-mysql-5.5, and zoneminder.

Select the release version

The default version for installation and upgrade of Mysql server and all components is the version selected from the added APT repository. The original selection can be modified at any time using the following commands.

dpkg-reconfigure mysql-apt-config
Copy after login

After the modification is completed, use the following command to update the mysql warehouse:

apt-get update
Copy after login
Copy after login
Copy after login

Run the apt-get install command again, and the version you selected will be installed.

The component version selection of Mysql is similar to this.

Install additional MYSQL products and components

After adding the Mysql APT repository. First, use the following command to get the latest package information from the APT repository.

apt-get update
Copy after login
Copy after login
Copy after login

Use the following command to install the component or add-on product of your choice, replacing package-name with the package name.

apt-get install package-name
Copy after login

For example: Install the shared client library:

apt-get install libmysqlclient18
Copy after login

APT delete mysql

To delete the mysql server and its components installed with the MySQL APT warehouse, first use the following command Delete mysql server:

apt-get remove mysql-server
Copy after login

Then delete the software automatically installed with mysql server:

apt-get autoremove
Copy after login

Use the following command to delete ancillary products and components, replace package-name with the name of the package you want to delete :

apt-get remove package-name
Copy after login

To view the packages you installed using the MySQL APT repository, use the following command:

dpkg -l | grep mysql | grep ii
Copy after login
