Application scenarios
You may need to clone a security group in the following scenarios:
Assume you are already in region A A security group SG1 is created. At this time, you need to use the same rules as SG1 for the instances in region B. You can directly clone SG1 to region B without creating a security group from scratch in region B.
Assume that you have created a security group SG2 suitable for classic networks. At this time, you need to use the exact same rules as SG2 for some instances in the VPC network. You can change the network type when cloning SG2 Change to VPC and generate a security group suitable for the VPC network.
If you need to implement new security group rules for an online business, you can first clone the original security group as a backup, and then modify the rules in the security group. If the new security group rules have an adverse impact on your online business, you can restore the security group rules in whole or in part.
Prerequisites
If you need to change the network type of the security group to a private network (VPC), you should already be in the target region At least one private network is created.
Operation steps
Log in to the cloud server ECS management console.
In the left navigation bar, click Security Group.
Select a region.
In the security group list, find the security group that needs to be cloned. In the Operation column, click Clone.
In the Clone dialog box, set the information of the new security group:
Target region: Select the region where the new security group is applicable. Not all regions are currently supported. The supported regions are subject to the console display.
Security group name: Set the name of the new security group.
Network type: Select the network type for the new security group. If you choose a VPC, you also need to select an available VPC in the target region.
After confirming that everything is correct, click OK.
After the creation is successful, the clone dialog box will automatically close. You can see the cloned new security group in the Security Group List.
