The difference between PHP extension modules Pecl, Pear and Perl_PHP Tutorial

pear pecl perl php

1. Brief summary:
pear: a relatively standard writing toolbox code set that is more popular abroad
pecl: PHP expansion package, but does not belong to the basic PHP extension scope
perl: a script-level language that appeared earlier than PHP. PHP borrowed its regular expression part

2. Pear and Pecl are both collections of PHP extension modules. There are two ways to extend PHP:

A. One is to write functions and classes in pure PHP code.
Pear is such a project. PEAR is PHP's official open source class library (abbreviation for PHP Extension and Application Repository). Pear means pear in English. PEAR compiles commonly used functions in the PHP program development process into class libraries, covering many aspects such as page rendering, database access, file operations, data structures, cache operations, network protocols, etc., and can be used easily by users. It is a code repository for PHP extensions and applications. Simply put, PEAR is PHP's cpan. Its homepage is pear.php.net.

B. Another option is to write an external module in c or c++ and load it into php.
Pecl (The PHP Extension Community Library) does this. It is a standard extension of PHP that can supplement the functions required in actual development. All extensions need to be installed and appear in the form of DLL under Windows; they need to be compiled separately under Linux. Its expression is written in C language according to the official PHP standard. Although the source code is open, ordinary people cannot change the source code at will. Its homepage is pecl.php.net.
The most direct expression: Pear is the upper-level extension of PHP, and Pecl is the lower-level extension of PHP.
These two methods actually provide ready-made functions or classes for specific applications. They are essentially the same.

3. The difference between PEAR, PECL and Perl

PEAR is the abbreviation of the PHP Extension and Application Repository. It is a code repository for PHP extensions and applications. Simply put, PEAR is the CPAN of PHP.
PECL (PHP Extension Community Library), PHP extension library, which provides a series of known extension libraries written in C++ and other languages, most of which are in the form of Dll (dynamic link library). PEAR is faster, but unlike PEAR, PECL needs to be configured on the server and registered to the host.
Perl (Practical Extraction and Report Language) was originally designed by Larry Wall, who published it on December 18, 1987. Perl borrowed features from C, sed, awk, shell scripting, and many other programming languages. The most important feature is its internal integration of regular expression functions and the huge third-party code library CPAN. In short, Perl is as powerful as C and as convenient as scripting languages such as awk and sed. Perl is often referred to as the "Practical Extraction and Report Language" (Practical Extraction and Report Language). You may also see "perl", with all letters in lowercase. Generally, "Perl", with a capital P, refers to the language itself, while "perl", with a lowercase p, refers to the interpreter that the program runs on.
