If You Want An Acer PC, Buy It Now - Make Tech Easier
Computer prices have been relatively stable for years, but that stability might be disrupted in the coming months. Starting next month, Acer PCs are set to increase in price, which could signal the beginning of a broader trend of rising computer costs.
Acer PC Prices to Increase by 10 Percent
Acer is often viewed as a budget-friendly option, providing a solid mix of affordability and functionality. From my own experience, my Acer laptop boasted superior battery life compared to other brands I've used.
If you're considering purchasing an Acer to save money, now is the time to act. The company has announced a 10-percent price hike due to tariffs imposed by Donald Trump. Acer's CEO, Jason Chen, has been upfront about the increase, explaining that it will only reflect the cost of the tariffs.
Acer is the first brand to disclose such a price adjustment. When will it take effect? Any new stock from China after February will be subject to this new pricing structure. If you spot a good deal on Amazon or at your local Walmart, it's wise to purchase it before the new stock arrives.
The impact of a 10-percent increase on Acer PCs can vary from $30 to over $100, depending on the model. While this might not seem significant, if the costs of hardware components also rise, Acer and other brands might be compelled to raise prices even more.
To mitigate the effects of future tariffs, Acer is considering alternative manufacturing sites, including the U.S. However, the higher production costs in the U.S. could counteract any efforts to reduce prices.
Despite assurances that tariffs wouldn't increase costs, President Trump has acknowledged that prices could go up. During his first term, costs did indeed rise, prompting some manufacturers, including Acer, to shift their assembly operations outside of China. These operations did not necessarily move to the U.S., though. The overarching aim is to bring more jobs back to the U.S., which could eventually lead to lower prices.
Other Brands Likely to Follow Suit
Brands such as HP, Dell, Lenovo, and others are expected to follow Acer's lead. However, some manufacturers ramped up production before Trump's second term to buffer against the impact of tariffs, at least temporarily.
Chen has suggested that some brands might use this as an opportunity to raise prices far beyond the current 10-percent tariffs on China. If a trade war escalates, tariffs could exceed 10 percent, providing PC manufacturers with even more justification to significantly increase prices.
Although Apple has shifted much of its manufacturing to the U.S., some components are still sourced from China, meaning Apple products might also see price increases similar to those of PCs.
Even with potential trade agreements or complete U.S. manufacturing, prices might remain elevated as brands seek to capitalize on additional profits.

Improve mouse accuracy: Disable Windows 11 mouse acceleration function The mouse cursor moves too fast on the screen, even if you only move the mouse a few centimeters? This is what the mouse acceleration function is. This article will guide you on how to disable this feature to better control mouse movement. Is it wise to disable mouse acceleration? There is no direct "Mouse Acceleration" option in Windows systems. Instead, it is the "Enhanced Pointer Precision" setting, which Microsoft sees as a mouse acceleration feature. When this feature is enabled, the mouse's DPI (dots per inch) setting takes effect. It controls the relationship between the physical movement speed of the mouse and the distance the cursor moves on the screen.
