You Could Get $100 in Siri Class Action Settlement

May 14, 2025 am 05:13 AM

Summary

  • Apple settlement offers up to $100 for Siri privacy violations in the US from 2014-2024.
  • Claimants must swear under oath that Siri was unintentionally activated on each device.
  • Maximum payout per device is $20, totaling $100 for approved claims. Check the settlement website to file a claim.

Apple just got out (badly) of a high-profile legal battle with Epic, but it's not the only legal battle Apple has lost recently. You might be entitled to up to $100 in compensation if you've had Siri snoop on you anytime within the last ten years.

Apple device owners in the United States who believe their private conversations were unintentionally recorded by the Siri voice assistant may now be eligible to claim a share of a $95 million settlement fund. A website has been established to allow individuals whose Siri-enabled devices may have inadvertently captured audio between September 17, 2014, and December 31, 2024, to submit claims.

The payout stems from a 2019 class-action lawsuit, which alleged that Apple infringed upon its users' privacy by allowing Siri to capture conversations without explicit consent. It was claimed that these recordings were subsequently passed to third-party contractors for quality control purposes, a practice plaintiffs argued was not adequately disclosed to users. In response to the initial allegations in 2019, Apple issued a formal apology and implemented changes to its policy, stating it would no longer retain recordings by default and would offer people more control over their data. After several years of back and forth, Apple agreed in January to pay $95 million to settle the case, thereby avoiding further litigation without admitting to the full scope of allegations.

Individuals who owned an eligible Apple device in the US and believe Siri was unintentionally activated at some point during a conversation in a decade-long period from September 17, 2014 to December 31, 2024 are eligible to grab a piece of the cake. Claimants can submit applications for up to five devices. You technically can submit a claim as long as you had an eligible device during those dates, but you must swear under oath that the Siri voice assistant was unintentionally activated on each device for which you are seeking compensation, so it's kind of literally illegal to lie here.

If a claim is approved, the settlement terms cap the payout at $20 per device. Therefore, an individual with approved claims for five devices could receive a maximum of $100. The actual payout could be less—this is just the maximum payout you could get. While Apple is in the process of directly notifying some potential class members who have already been identified and provided with a Claim Identification Code and Confirmation Code, any US resident who believes they meet the eligibility criteria can submit a claim through the settlement website. Receiving a direct notice is not a prerequisite for filing a claim. Visit the website now if you want to submit your claim.

Smartphones Are Boring Now and It's Our Fault Smartphones Are Boring Now and It's Our Fault Apr 23, 2025 am 03:06 AM

The golden age of smartphones has passed? Future Outlook Technology enthusiasts often complain that modern mobile phones are the same and lack of innovation. Although manufacturers are to blame, we also play an important role. Let us review the development history of smartphones and explore the causes of the current situation. The Golden Age of Smartphones In 1973, Motorola engineer Martin Cooper made historic calls with the DynaTAC 8000X on the streets of New York. This "brick" phone opened the era of wireless networks. Nearly 20 years later, IBM Simon was released, becoming the world's first smartphone, equipped with a resistive touch screen and simple applications. Today, although it is a hundred times more powerful, the core function of modern smartphones is still used as an application portal. Early innovation slows down

How to Turn Off Mail Categories on iPad How to Turn Off Mail Categories on iPad Apr 28, 2025 am 11:33 AM

The Mail App updated on iPadOS 18.4 introduces the mail category feature. The feature is designed to automatically categorize inbox messages in the Mail App into specific categories, including "Main", "Transaction", "Update" and "Promotion", as well as a nearly hidden "All Mail" option. While this feature is designed to clean up and organize users’ inboxes, in practice, many users find that the Mail Category feature prioritizes old useless messages (such as DoorDash promotional emails a few months ago) and hides recent useful messages from real people (such as family, friends, colleagues). In addition, the Mail Category feature adds an additional layer of interaction between the inbox in the Mail App and the actual view of all messages. For these reasons, and other
