Samsung is about to reveal its thinnest smartphone to date: the Galaxy S25 Edge. Despite having a slim profile, the phone will maintain a flagship stature with top-tier hardware and software. Ahead of its official launch, here's everything we know about the Galaxy S25 Edge, including its release date, expected specifications, and price.

S25 Edge to Go Official on May 12, 2025

Samsung has officially announced an event for the S25 Edge on May 13, 2025, at 9 AM KST. In the United States, the event should be available to stream on May 12 at 8 PM ET. Those interested in watching the event can tune into Samsung's official YouTube channel.

The handset should be available to pre-order following the launch event and hit stores by the end of this month or early next month. Pre-reservations of the handsets are already underway on the company's official website.

Galaxy S25 Edge May Feature Ultra-Slim 5.8mm Side Profile

While confirming the S25 Edge's launch date, Samsung said it is "more than a slim smartphone," but exactly how slim is it?

Samsung's current flagship, the Galaxy S25 Ultra, is 8.2 mm thick, while the Galaxy S25 is just 7.3 mm, making it one of the thinnest phones in the segment. However, the S25 Edge is rumored to have a side profile of just 5.8 or 5.9 mm (excluding the slightly protruding camera module).

Despite having a larger form factor than the Galaxy S25, the Galaxy S25 Edge will weigh similar to the baseline flagship, i.e., around 163 grams. To give you some perspective about how light Samsung's upcoming smartphone is, the S25 with a similar screen size weighs 190 grams.

Most recently, folks at Android Headlines got their hands on the promotional material for the Galaxy S25 Edge. The images suggest the phone will feature a titanium frame and an IP68 dust and water resistance rating.

In addition, Samsung has confirmed using Corning's Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 (with embedded glass matrix crystals for enhanced durability) on the S25 Edge, but it might not have the anti-reflective properties the S25 Ultra has. However, the back of the handset could feature Gorilla Glass Victus 2.

The S25 Edge might be available in three colorways: dark gray, light blue, and light beige.

Expect a Similar Screen as the S25 but With Thinner Bezels

While the general consensus on the rumor mill is a 6.7-inch screen, Tom's Guide mentions how the S25 Edge could feature a 6.656-inch panel, making it a hair smaller than the screen on the S25 , but still significantly bigger than the regular S25.

Renowned tipster Ice Universe (via Sam Mobile) suggests that the S25 Edge will have a 2K screen, perhaps with a similar resolution (3,120 x 1,400 pixels), peak brightness (2,600 nits), and refresh rate (120Hz) likely with LTPO technology, as the S25 , though the bezels could be thinner.

If the S25 Edge ships with a screen with the aforementioned specifications, it will deliver a superior visual experience compared to the vanilla Galaxy S25.

S25 Edge Could Use the Snapdragon 8 Elite (3nm) SoC

Circling back to the leaked promotional material, it claims that the S25 Edge will feature "the most powerful processor customized for Galaxy." This is likely a reference to the Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy, a slightly overclocked version of Qualcomm's fastest mobile platform in the market.

We're talking about the same chip that powers Samsung's current flagship lineup, from the Galaxy S25, the Galaxy S25 , to the Galaxy S25 Ultra. It contains a 37% faster CPU, a 30% faster GPU, and an advanced NPU capable of running features like Generative Edit entirely offline.

A GeekBench 6 listing from March 21, 2025, suggests the presence of 12GB of RAM on the device. Regarding storage, the ultra-thin handset will reportedly be available in two variants: 256GB and 512GB.

Given the lack of space inside the handset, it seems unlikely that the S25 Edge will feature a vapor chamber. However, I sincerely hope that Samsung surprises us with an engineering feat here, as, and I speak with experience here, the Galaxy S25 series tends to heat up a bit.

One UI 7.0 With Galaxy AI

Out of the box, the S25 Edge should run on One UI 7, Samsung's latest custom user interface based on Android 15. With all the refinements and customization options, One UI also offers many AI-based features for everyday tasks like editing pictures, compiling notes, gathering information about something, and more.

Like the other Galaxy S series flagships, the S25 Edge should also get software and security updates for seven years from its launch.

Samsung Confirms 200MP Primary Camera

The company has confirmed using a 200MP primary camera on the S25 Edge, which will continue "Galaxy's iconic camera experience." The leaked promotional material also corroborates this, stating that the sensor will provide "2x optical quality zoom."

Apart from the 200MP primary camera, the S25 Edge should offer a 12MP ultrawide camera with autofocus, which theoretically unlocks macro photography. On the front, buyers may get a 12MP selfie shooter (like typical Samsung flagships).

Like the Galaxy S25 lineup, the S25 Edge's camera should be able to capture 8K30 videos, capture improved low-light videos, offer the new Audio Eraser feature, include a Virtual Aperture button, and record in Galaxy Log.

Being more expensive than the Galaxy S25 and Galaxy S25 and not offering a dedicated telephoto camera could raise some questions about the S25 Edge, but hey, it isn't a camera-centric smartphone.

Lack of Space Might Lead to a Smaller 3,900 mAh Battery

Having a thin chassis comes with its pros and cons. While the phone will turn a lot of heads with its slim side profile and provide a premium in-hand feel, the lack of space inside could lead to a smaller battery. If the rumors about a 3,900 mAh battery on the S25 Edge are true, the handset will feature the smallest battery on any S25 model, providing the shortest battery life.

To give you some perspective, the vanilla Galaxy S25 has a 4,000 mAh battery, but with a smaller 6.2-inch screen. Given that the S25 Edge has a bigger screen (with higher resolution) and a smaller battery, buyers should expect a noticeable downgrade; the S25 Edge won't last as long between charges.

While the battery should support 25W wired charging, the thin body might not leave any room for wireless charging equipment (let alone the Qi2 magnetic array that holds the charging puck or compatible accessories in place).

S25 Edge to Fit Between S25 and S25 Ultra

The Galaxy S25 Edge could be priced between the Galaxy S25 and the Galaxy S25 Ultra. To recall, Samsung launched the Galaxy S25 (256GB) at $999 (now available at $850), while the S25 Ultra (256GB) is available at $1,299 (now available at $1,070).

In fact, the more I think about it, the more I realize that the S25 Edge is a slimmer S25 without the telephoto camera and a massive 4,900 mAh battery. In that regard, shouldn't the S25 Edge cost less than or equal to the S25 ? Time will tell.

In my opinion, the S25 Edge should cost between $1,000 and $1,100. Its price should be closer to the price of the S25 than that of the S25 Ultra. Given that the other two phones are already available at a discounted price, Samsung might have to be more cautious about the Edge's price.
