DOOM The Dark Ages Sentinel Barracks walkthrough

Throughout the Sentinel Barracks chapter in DOOM: The Dark Ages, you’ll be looking for the following:

• 6 Secrets
• 1 Codex Entry (Collectible)
• 1 Toy (Collectible)
• 1 Weapon Skin (Collectible)
• 1 Demonic Essence (Armor)
• 2 Rubies

As mentioned in our other chapter walkthroughs for DOOM: The Dark Ages, but worth repeating, remember that both secrets and collectibles aren’t necessarily in the same spot. Some secret locations may contain Gold and other loot, such as Life Sigils, while some collectibles may be hiding in plain sight rather than hidden away in a secret area.

On top of that, remember to refer to your map! It’ll show you collectible and secret icons whenever you’re nearby one, and you can keep track of which ones you are missing by looking at the list of collectible items on the right-hand side of it.

Secret #1 and Collectible #1

At the beginning of the Sentinel Barracks chapter in DOOM: The Dark Ages, follow your quest objective until you come to an indoor fight in a long hallway with a Mancubus and multiple soldiers. This directly follows an outdoor fight with another Mancubus and soldiers.

At the beginning of the hallway, look to your right.

There’s a boarded-up opening to Shield Bash through. Here, you will find our first secret location, which includes the Hell Knight Toy and some Gold.

Secret #2

Continue down the long hallway - where you fought the Mancubus - until you come to a small area full of smaller hallways and gates. You must stand on a platform (with a green sigil) to reveal some Hot Metal you can Shield Throw at. Do this, and a climbable wall is revealed, but don’t go up there just yet.

Instead, there’s a puzzle you can solve in this area that sees you collecting the second secret location for this chapter and a Gold Chest.

If you are facing the newly revealed climbable wall, take a left and enter the next hallway, then look up. Shield Throw at the green Flesh Node here to reach the upper level.

Collect the Gold here, and on the opposite side of the floor you're standing on, look across the room. You should see a crate you can Shield Bash into.

Do this, jump down, and climb on the crate you just moved to reach the upper level on the opposite side of the room. This is our next secret location, and you’ll find a Gold Chest!

Continue following your quest objective, defeating the Hell Knights along the way, and you’ll very quickly come to another corridor (alongside an enemy encounter).

Secret #3

In the next corridor, look for an interactive panel and locked door on your left (pictured below).

Interact with the panel to open the door, and go through the vents, collecting the third secret location for this chapter, a Life Sigil, and plenty of Gold.

On top of that, a Ruby can be acquired from a statue in the upcoming safe area (the Hangar), before you head outside and pass the point of no return.

Secret #4

Follow your quest objective through the following area - making sure to grab the Ruby in the Hangar - until you wind up at the Sentinel Shrine.

Here, go behind the Shrine and stand on the platform with the red sigil on it, which reveals a gravity jet that allows us to progress further through the chapter.

Throw your Shield at the Flesh Node opposite the platform (shown below), then use it to jump over the crate there. You can then Shield Bash the crate onto the platform we were just standing on, and now, you can use the gravity jet to continue!

Once outside of the Barracks, you should see – in a small building to the left, with an Imp Stalker outside of it – a Life Sigil behind some wooden planks.

Now, if you go to the edge of the bridge and look down to your left, you should see a small island with some gold bars on it shown above). You can sprint and jump onto this, and climb up the walls up ahead of you to reach the next secret location and Life Sigil.

Demonic Essence (Armor)

Defeat the Mancubus in the following encounter - across the bridge - to receive a Demonic Essence Armor upgrade.

Secret #5

In the following area, there is another broken bridge after the Nightmare Imp Stalker (these are Imp Stalkers that are invisible until you attack them). Jump onto the second half of the bridge here, and before continuing, turn around.

There’s a climbable wall you can jump to (shown above), so do that.

Go through the following passage and continue upwards to find the next secret location – full of cultists – and a Ruby. Climb above this to continue following the quest objective and get some Gold.

Secret #6 and Collectible #2

We’re currently making our way to Dragon’s Den, so continue following your quest objective, platforming downwards as you do so. Eventually, you’ll come to a burning tree, and there'll be some burning projectiles coming at you.

If you keep right, you can go upstairs (shown above) to an area with some allied soldiers and our final secret location, plus a Weapon Skin!

Collectible #3

Last, but not least, when you reach the next Sentinel Shrine, explore to the left of it before continuing. You’ll grab a Codex entry, which is our final collectible. You can now finish the chapter!
