Netflix's Best New Horror Movie Is One Of The Highest-Scored Of 2025
This Valentine's Day, escape into the delightfully schlocky fun of Heart Eyes, a slasher film that's a loving throwback to classic horror. While not highbrow cinema, it offers a refreshing change of pace from today's "elevated" horror trend. The premise is simple: the Heart Eyes Killer is back, targeting romantic couples on Valentine's Day.
"For the past several years, the 'Heart Eyes Killer' has wreaked havoc on Valentine's Day by stalking and murdering romantic couples. This Valentine's Day, no couple is safe...."
Surprisingly, Heart Eyes boasts an impressive 81% Rotten Tomatoes critics' score – one of the highest of the year! Audience approval is also strong at 77%. Here's how it stacks up against other 2025 releases (some may be omitted):
- Sinners (more than just a horror film) – 97%
- Companion (an exceptional film) – 93%
- Heart Eyes – 81%
- The Monkey – 79% (possibly overrated)
- Clown in a Cornfield – 74%
- The Gorge - 63%
- Borderline – 56%
- Wolf Man – 49%
- The Woman in the Yard – 42%
- Opus – 42%
While 2025 has seen a mixed bag of horror releases, Heart Eyes holds its own, ranking highly, especially if you exclude the genre-bending Sinners. (Though, Sinners is highly recommended!)
This top-tier ranking might be short-lived. Several major horror titles are on the horizon: Bring Her Back, Fear Street: Prom Queen, 28 Years Later, M3GAN 2.0, I Know What You Did Last Summer (remake), and Weapons (potentially the best, directed by the Barbarian director). These arrive later this month through August.
Heart Eyes isn't a cinematic masterpiece, but it's a fun, nostalgic slasher with a standout performance by Olivia Holt and a creative villain with some truly terrifying weaponry. The gore is present but not excessive. While Companion is also highly recommended, Heart Eyes' current availability on Netflix makes it an easy choice for a fun, readily accessible horror experience. Enjoy!

New York Times Connections game tips and answers (Friday, April 18) Hello everyone, connecters! Happy weekend! I mentioned that this is WrestleMania weekend the other day, so today and tomorrow I may be watching a lot of wrestling matches. It should be very interesting! Oh, of course, I will definitely watch the latest episode of The Last of Us tomorrow. I wrote an article about the key changes made from The Last of Us 2 in Season 1 and why I thought it was a good decision (although I had some reservations initially): The first major change in Season 2 of The Last of Us appears to be to protect Abby’s cast I'm not worried at all about the next episode? Aside from that, I don't know what I'm going to do this weekend because I'm alone. Maybe I should
