Fix the “Failed to Personalize Software Update” Error in MacOS
Some Mac users may encounter a strange error message when trying to update their Mac to macOS Sequoia (and other macOS software updates): "Failed to personalize software updates. Please try again." Although this is not common, it is very frustrating because it prevents the installation of major system software upgrades. However, it is usually easy to solve.
When trying to download and install macOS Sequoia in System Settings > Software Update, a full error message may be displayed:
"The software update failed to be personalized. Please try again.
An error occurred while downloading the selected update. Please check your internet connection and try again. ”
If you are offline, you will need to activate your internet connection, which may solve the problem. But for many users, this is not a problem or solution, if that's the case, keep reading.
Method 1: Turn off the "Find" function
For some users, disabling the Find feature can successfully start software updates for macOS Sequoia.
Go to Apple Menu > System Settings > Your Apple ID Account > iCloud, look for the "Use iCloud Apps" section, and click "Show All" > click "Find" > click "Close".
Now return to the software update and try to install macOS Sequoia again.
Method 2: Log out of iCloud/Apple account
Next try to log out of your Apple ID from your Mac.
Go to System Settings > Your Apple/iCloud Account > Scroll down and select Logout.
If you use iCloud photos, disabling iCloud can be very troublesome as it triggers the process of downloading everything, but if you just log out, there shouldn't be any problem.
Last resort: DFU firmware recovery
If you have another Apple Silicon Mac, you can start DFU recovery. This requires a double-sided USB-C cable and will erase the Mac using Mac firmware and restore it to factory settings. You can then restore your Time Machine backup and retrieve everything. Of course, this method is not feasible if you don't have a backup available, or if you don't have another Apple Silicon Mac.
This is indeed a last resort for advanced users who are competent for such computer tasks. If you send your Mac to a repair center, they will most likely start DFU recovery to fix this.
You can learn about the DFU recovery process at support.apple.com.

Is turning off the Find feature or logging out of Apple account/iCloud effective for you? Do you have to use firmware for DFU recovery? Have you found another solution? Please share your findings in the comments.
