Oblivion Remastered: Miscarcand Quest Walkthrough
In The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, early in the main storyline, Martin Septim frequently tasks you with retrieving items. These quests are typically straightforward, except when the dungeon proves treacherous.
Miscarcand, as Martin describes, is exceptionally perilous. Its reputation for claiming lives stems from its labyrinthine layout. Your objective: locate the Great Welkynd Stone within these Ayleid ruins.
Initiating the Miscarcand Quest
This quest unlocks after completing "Blood of the Divine." Martin needs the Great Welkynd Stone to activate the portal to Camoran's Paradise, requiring decryption of the Mysterium Xarxes.
While most Great Welkynd Stones have been plundered, Miscarcand is believed to hold one. He cautions you about its deadly nature, urging extreme caution.
Navigating the Miscarcand Ruins
West of Skingrad lies Miscarcand. Follow the Map Marker from Skingrad for easy access. Eliminate any goblins guarding the entrance before proceeding to the staircase and inner door.
Inside, expect encounters with goblins (living and dead), skeletons, and zombies. Prepare accordingly. You'll reach a room with a choice: jump to a lower level (leading back to the same area) or proceed through the door.
Choose the door. You'll find a regular door to your left and an unopenable Ayleid gate to your right. The left door leads downstairs to a bridge crossing a large hall. Further along, another locked Ayleid gate awaits.
Opening the Ayleid Gates
Jump down into the hall. Use clairvoyance (or explore manually) to find a path upstairs. Defeat the goblins in this room to find a switch. Activating this switch unlocks the gates. You'll return to the area near the entrance.
Return to the bridge and proceed to the Miscarcand Sel Vanua gate. It's now open.
Miscarcand Sel Vanua
This area features goblins and skeletons battling each other. Locate a switch on the eastern wall (it doesn't immediately open doors). Head south to find a downward-leading gate.
Miscarcand Morimath
Downstairs, a crossroads with zombies awaits. Go left, following the greenish lanterns. You'll find the Great Welkynd Stone.
Taking the stone awakens the King of Miscarcand, a lich. Defeat him to obtain the Miscarcand Key. A chamber behind him contains an Ayleid Cask. A switch unlocks a hidden exit.
Exiting Miscarcand
The hidden path (from the King's chamber) allows you to use the key to open a gate. Alternatively, you can pick the locks on lower levels, but it's a longer route.
Following the path leads back to the first level. A ground switch opens a hidden passage to the exit.
Returning the Great Welkynd Stone to Martin completes the quest. He'll reveal the next, even more perilous, item you must obtain.
