Some Disappointing News About 'Ahsoka' Season 2's Release Date
Ahsoka Season 2: A Long Time Coming, but Worth the Wait?
News regarding the Ahsoka spin-off has been slow in coming, frustrating fans who enjoyed the first season. While the series successfully leveraged established characters from Clone Wars and Rebels, the production of Season 2 has faced delays. Filming has only recently begun, partially attributed to the concurrent development of The Mandalorian and Grogu. Rosario Dawson's recent costumed photo announcement confirmed this much-anticipated news.
The timeline is concerning. Season 1 premiered in August 2023. With filming just commencing, post-production and release could easily push the premiere date well over a year from now. Considering Season 1's 15-month production cycle (May 2022 to August 2023), a Season 2 release in August 2026 isn't unrealistic—a three-year gap between seasons. This surpasses even the delay seen with Andor.
Several factors contributed to the delay. Dave Filoni's involvement with The Mandalorian and Grogu, along with the rumored timeline of an upcoming film (allegedly releasing in May 2026) preceding Season 2, likely played a role. The film's potential inclusion of Ahsoka characters remains unconfirmed.
The show also experienced a recast. Following Ray Stevenson's passing in 2023, his role as Baylan Skoll will be filled by Rory McCann. The rest of the cast, including fan-favorite Ivanna Sakhno as Shin Hati, will return. There are also reports of Hayden Christensen's potential return as Anakin Skywalker.
While the delay is frustrating, it's unfortunately par for the course for Disney's Star Wars franchise. Past inconsistencies in film releases, canceled or costly shows, and other issues have plagued the franchise. Currently, Ahsoka appears to be one of the few shows confirmed for a second season.
