Anya Bhimani, a familiar face in the actual play community (known for appearances on Critical Role and The Puppy Roll), has ventured into game design, creating The Malady of Minarrh for D&D Beyond. This adventure, designed for fifth-level characters over two to three sessions, allows Bhimani to showcase her love for storytelling and the 2024 D&D rules.

"The opportunity to work with D&D Beyond arose," Bhimani explains, "and I wanted to create an adventure that truly reflected my vision. I wanted to highlight the new rules, but also return to what I loved about D&D as a child."

The Malady of Minarrh begins with an investigation into a mysterious illness plaguing the town. While players must identify and eliminate the cause, the solution isn't as straightforward as defeating a single villain.

"It's dark and mysterious," Bhimani says, "with plenty of roleplaying opportunities and dangerous encounters. There are secrets, codes, riddles—all sorts of fun elements and sweeping themes." Bhimani collaborated with Wizards of the Coast, expressing excitement about the adventure's release on D&D Beyond.

The adventure's horror elements, influenced by games like Candela Obscura and feedback from testers and editor Hannah Rose, make it ideal for campaigns set in Ravenloft or other spooky settings.

Bhimani's experience running a D&D game at LEGO Headquarters inspired her to include advice for new Dungeon Masters within the adventure. She encourages players to embrace the challenge of DMing: "I love trying new things," she says, "because it builds confidence and teaches you to tackle the unknown."
