Google adds member pricing beta type to Merchant listing pricing structured data

Google enhances its Merchant listing structured data guidelines with a new beta feature for member pricing. This update, announced by Google, introduces the validForMemberTier property (alongside the existing priceType property) to more accurately represent complex pricing structures within JSON-LD. The goal is to simplify the process for merchants to represent various pricing models in structured data, aligning it with Merchant Center's existing capabilities.

Member Pricing: Member prices, offered to loyalty program participants, are encoded using price specifications within the Offer object. Crucially, priceType and validForMemberTier are mutually exclusive:

  • Active Prices: Neither priceType nor validForMemberTier is used.
  • Strikethrough Prices: priceType is set to StrikethroughPrice (or ListPrice temporarily). validForMemberTier cannot be used.
  • Member Prices: validForMemberTier is used; priceType cannot be used.

Active, Strikethrough, and Sale Prices: The guidelines provide updated definitions and examples for these standard pricing types. The active price reflects the current offering, while the strikethrough price represents the original or regular price, typically shown as a crossed-out price to highlight a sale.
