Casely Is Recalling Almost Half a Million Batteries

Apr 21, 2025 pm 12:12 PM

Casely recalled nearly 500,000 wireless power banks due to the risk of overheating of batteries and fire.

51 reports of overheating and burns have led to the recall, affected by the 5,000 mAh model sold since March 2022. Users should handle the recalled power banks in accordance with local laws and upload photos to get free replacement.

Any item containing a battery has potential fire hazards, so it is a worrying issue when a specific model of battery starts to catch fire. Now, many Casely batteries are catching fire, so the company is issuing recall notices for nearly 500,000 units.

Casely officially issued a recall notice for some of its wireless power banks. The problem product is a 5,000 mAh wireless power bank that can be connected to the back of the phone via MagSafe, providing at least one full charge. According to the recall announcement, the recall was due to “51 cases of consumers reporting that lithium-ion batteries overheat, expand or catch fire while charging their phones, resulting in 6 minor burns.”

The 51 case report is a big number, which is even worse considering that about 429,200 of these power banks were sold. This is almost 500,000. This makes sense because it is a relatively cheap power bank, but it also means that there may be nearly 500,000 potentially flawed products on the market. According to the recall notice, anyone who owns this power bank must dispose of it safely. Do not throw it into the trash can, but should be disposed of in accordance with local laws on how to dispose of lithium-ion batteries. Take photos and upload them to the company's website for free replacement. Offering free replacements to nearly half a million units seems like a daunting task, especially if they don’t take them back. But considering that they are legal fire hazards, even if your power bank has not overheated or similar situations have occurred, it may not be possible to send it back.

The Casely Power Bank in the question was first released in March 2022 and is sold through the company's website and retailers such as Amazon. It was discontinued in September 2024, but it has sold a lot in more than two years since it was launched. I don't think Casely can handle every product, especially considering that many products were sold a few years ago, but if you happen to own one (or someone you know owns one), be sure to safely dispose of it before claiming to replace it.

You may be eligible for a refund.

2 This type of recall is relatively common. Just last December, a brand called Charmast also issued a similar large-scale power bank recall notice, with hundreds of thousands of recalls. Even well-known brands such as Anker need to recall products from time to time. If the main purpose of your product is to have a very large battery unit, some of these products are destined to be flawed. After all, batteries, and all items containing batteries, are persistent fire hazards. Some are just safer than others.

If you have one of the batteries, be sure to visit the official recall website to view all relevant details and see if you can get a replacement. You can also view the CPSC list for more details about the actual recall.

But over the weekend, the company found multiple issues, including a major bug, and reportedly had been reported to have been from global servers
