Daily New York Times puzzle game "Connections" Tips and Answers (Thursday, April 3)

Hello everyone! I hope you have a wonderful week.

I'm very busy with work. I really love my job (especially putting this column for you lovely people every day), but I often have trouble pulling myself out of my job and really focusing on other things.

To solve this problem, I reduced the number of notifications on my phone and watch when I was supposed to leave my desk. As a freelancer, balancing work and life is often tricky, but it is important to do this (I’m setting up a newsletter while saying this!). If we can't do our best in both modes, we can't find the right balance. I hope you can find this balance too.

Before we started, I had already set up a discussion group on Discord for NYT Connections and this column. We have a great little community there and we talk about more than just NYT games. Everyone who joined was very friendly. This is a fun gathering place.

This is also the best way to give me any feedback about columns, especially in the rare case where I make mistakes (!) because I don't read much of a comment or tweet.

Today's "NYT Connections" tips and answers (Thursday, April 3) are coming soon.

How to play Connections

Connections is a free, popular New York Times daily word game. You will receive a new puzzle every midnight. You can play on the NYT * website or game app.

You will see a grid of 16 words. Your task is to arrange them into four four groups by finding out the connections between them. These groups may be such as items you can click on, the name of the study participant, or words that start with a body part, etc.

There is only one solution for each puzzle, and you need to be careful when dealing with words that may fit multiple categories. You can arrange the words as you like, which may help you see the connection between them.

Each group is color-coded. The yellow group is usually the easiest to find, the blue and green are centered, and the purple group is usually the hardest. Purple groups usually involve word games.

Select the four words you think are put together and press Submit. If you guess wrong, you will lose a life. If you are close to getting a correct group, you may see a message telling you that you are only one word from the correct answer, but you still need to find out which word needs to be exchanged.

If you make four mistakes, the game is over. Let's make sure that this doesn't happen with the help of some tips, if you're really struggling, today's Connections answer. Like Wordle and other similar games, it's easy to share results with your friends on social media and group chats.

If you have a NYT All Access or Games subscription, you can access the Connections archive for the publication. This includes every previous game of Connections, so you can go back and play any of the games you missed.

Apart from the initial 60 games or so, if you need it, you should be able to find my tips via Google! Just click here and add the game date you need to the search query where you need the clue or answer.

What is the Connections prompt today?

Scroll slowly! After every prompt from Connections group today, I will reveal what these groups are, without telling you immediately which words belong to them.

Today's 16 words (well, symbols) are...

  • SCANNER (Scanner)
  • BROWSER (Browser)
  • POSTER (poster)
  • READER (Reader)
  • NOTICE
  • BEACH (Beach)
  • REGISTER (Cash Register)
  • FOLDER (Folder)
  • SUNDAY (Sunday)
  • BULLETIN (Announcement)
  • SCALE (Scale)
  • TREE (tree)
  • SODA CAN (Soda Canister)
  • CONVEYOR BELT (Conveyor Belt)
  • KEYBOARD (keyboard)
  • ANNOUNCEMENT (Announcement)

And today's "Connections" group's tips are:

  • Yellow Group – Written Public Information
  • Green Group - Common items at Walmart, but not necessarily Staples' items
  • Blue Group – Similar to a bar with a bill not yet paid
  • Purple Group – Oil, wine and pilots are all right here

What is the Connections group today?

Need more help?

Note: We start to enter the spoiler area .

Today's "Connections" group is...

  • Yellow Group-Printing Notice
  • Green group – seen at the grocery store cashier
  • Blue group – something with labels
  • Purple Group-Palm_____

What is the answer to Connections today?

Spoiler warning! Don't scroll down the page until you're ready to find out today's Connections answer.

This is your last warning!

The answer to today's Connections is...

  • Yellow Group - Printing Notification (ANNOUNCEMENT, BULLETIN, NOTICE, POSTER)
  • Green Group – Seen at the grocery store cashier (CONVEYOR BELT, REGISTER, SCALE, SCANNER)
  • Blue Group - Something with Tags (BROWSER, FOLDER, KEYBOARD, SODA CAN)
  • Purple Group - Palm____ (BEACH, READER, SUNDAY, TREE)

There is no perfect game here, but my winning streak has reached 37 games. Here are my results:

?????

?????

?????
?????

I almost got the yellow one after I finished writing the word list, because ANNOUNCEMENT let me see that group very clearly.

However, I was a little confused afterwards. I did realize that CONVEYOR BELT and SCALE might be part of a grocery store cashier, so I put them together with REGISTER and READER. I'm missing one because of course, SCANNER (not READER) is the right choice. This locks in green.

From there, BROWSER, FOLDER, KEYBOARD and READER are like computer stuff to me. But no! I'm missing another one. But I'm lucky. Even though the connection wasn't entirely clear to me, I replaced READER with SODA CAN and got the blue color. I don't know why this recovered in my brain, but I'm glad it did!

In hindsight, this group makes sense. A network BROWSER has a tag for every page that is opened, and KEYBOARD has a Tab key. FOLDER and SODA CAN also have physical tags.

There are not many words that form a fairly well-known phrase with SUNDAY, so I unzipped the purple connection before submitting the group.

This is all about the clues and answers of today's Connections. If you need it, be sure to check out my blog for tips and solutions for tomorrow’s Friday game.

P.S.: We are approaching the weekend and you may feel a little tired. Let's venture into the realm of rock music and feel the energy.

Old readers may remember that Foo Fighters is one of my favorite bands, but I also enjoy some of the side projects of band members. Guitarist Chris Shifflett had a punk band called Jackson United (formerly Jackson) in the 2000s, and I really like it.

Sadly, the band's two albums are not on streaming services, or, as far as I can tell, cannot be purchased digitally. The only CD player I have lately is my Xbox. I might have two albums on my old iPod, but I don't know if it will still work. I'm not even sure I have a charging cable for it.

At least I found some Jackson United songs on YouTube, so I'm going to put them here for you guys. The first song, "Fell Into", is the easiest and can be said to be the most suitable for radio broadcasting, so I will start with this song. I also really like "21st Century Fight Song" (fact lovers, the late Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins, who plays drums, although not in the video) and "All The Way," but the songs are tougher. I hope you like:
