There is No Normal
This year's experiences have underscored the subjective and often misleading nature of "normal." The reality is, normalcy is an illusion. Circumstances evolve, individuals adapt, and everything is context-dependent.
This realization, while philosophical, has direct relevance to front-end development and the expectations we place on others in our field. We frequently project our own anxieties onto colleagues and newcomers.
"This is how I learned, so you should too."
"I know this, therefore you should too."
"I don't care about this, so it's irrelevant."
This mindset is unproductive. Front-end development is largely self-taught, lacking a standardized learning path or universally defined success metrics. Results, as the saying goes, vary.
This message is for those just beginning their front-end journey, recent bootcamp or university graduates, and anyone struggling with self-doubt or imposter syndrome. To those who feel inadequate or like they don't belong:
You belong here.
Your unique experiences are valuable.
There's no definitive skillset or mandatory technologies. Don't chase every trend. A foundational understanding of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript is a solid starting point. You'll acquire further skills over time. Your career is a journey of continuous learning; there's no need to master everything immediately.
Relax. Appreciate your current knowledge. You're doing great. Welcome to the profession.
