To support legacy hardware, Manjaro also provides long-term support (LTS) kernels, including 6.6 LTS and 6.1 LTS versions.

Manjaro GNOME Version

Originally launched in March 2024, GNOME 46 brings many bug fixes and performance enhancements that further enhance the user experience.

Global search in file manager:

GNOME's file manager now has a global search feature, allowing users to quickly find projects without knowing their exact location.

This new search feature takes advantage of GNOME's existing file search capabilities, including the ability to search in file content, filter by file type, and sort by modification date.

In addition, global search can also search multiple locations at the same time, even including locations outside the user's home directory. To set the desired search location, users can access the newly improved Search Location settings and add their preferred directory.

Enhanced remote desktop experience:

GNOME 46 introduces a dedicated remote login option that greatly improves the remote desktop experience. This feature allows the user to remotely connect to currently unused GNOME systems. By configuring the system's display from the remote end, users can enjoy a more seamless and optimized remote experience.

Reorganized Settings Application:

The Settings app in GNOME 46 has been reorganized to make it easier to navigate and find specific preferences. The System section has been added to include the region and language, date and time, user, remote desktop, security shell, and settings about it.

Additionally, the application settings have been merged and now include the default application and removable media settings.

Improved core experience and application updates:

GNOME 46 brings many small improvements and improvements to the core GNOME experience, as well as updates to many GNOME core applications.

These enhancements go beyond appearance changes and include deep technological improvements that lead to higher performance and a more complete user experience.

With these highlights, GNOME 46 is designed to provide users with a more efficient, accessible and visually engaging desktop environment.

Manjaro Plasma Version

Plasma 6.0

The Manjaro Plasma version comes with the latest Plasma 6.0 desktop environment and KDE Gear 24.02 software suite, bringing exciting new improvements to the user's desktop experience.

Plasma 6.0 marks a major upgrade to the KDE technology stack, including a transition to the latest version of the Qt application framework and an improved graphics platform when using Wayland.

HDR support on Wayland

A notable addition is partial support for high dynamic range (HDR) on Wayland. On compatible monitors and software, this feature provides richer and deeper colors for gaming, video and visual creations.

Additionally, the redesigned panel settings make it easier to configure floating panels to suit user preferences, including a new "Doing Window" mode that automatically hides the panels when they overlap.

Redesigned Settings Application

The improved settings app has been redesigned to make it easier to use, reduces the number of nested pages, and repositions the buttons to the toolbar to better align with other apps.

Custom sound theme

Users can now customize their voice themes, with the new default "Ocean" theme replacing the previous "Oxygen" theme.

Additionally, users can easily configure preferred applications to handle various file types, such as music and video files.

Cube effect regression

After temporary removal due to architectural improvements in KWin , the famous cube effect has returned, providing a visually appealing way to manage multiple desktops and impress friends and family with Plasma’s capabilities.

Plasma Search:

Plasma searches have also been enhanced, including the ability to switch between time zones, which is especially useful for people who travel frequently or communicate with colleagues and loved ones in different time zones.

Additionally, Plasma search has been optimized for faster searches, especially in applications and settings, while consuming less CPU resources.

Manjaro XFCE Version

The latest Manjaro version comes with XFCE 4.18 . Here are the highlights of the new XFCE 4.18 version in Manjaro XFCE:

File highlighting in Thunar File Manager:

Thunar file manager now includes a file highlighting feature that can be accessed from the File Properties dialog box.

This new feature allows users to set custom color background and foreground text colors for specific files, making it easier to attract attention to certain files in directories containing similar-looking mime types.

In addition, Thunar now supports recursive search , enhancing the ability to find files effectively.

Panel configuration improvements:

The XFCE panel gets two new configuration options .

First, panel length can now be configured in pixels rather than percentages, allowing for more precise control of panel size.

Second, a new Keep Panel Over the Window option was introduced, allowing the maximized application window to fill the area behind the panel instead of maximizing its bottom or top edges to be flush with the panel.

Control Center Enhancements:

The Control Center (which groups the various system management modules of the desktop into a single window) has been updated with new options in multiple modules.

For example, users can now disable the title bar in the dialog box from the Appearance module, show or hide the Delete option from the Desktop module, and select the default multi-monitor behavior before connecting to the attached screen.

This is a handy feature for those using multiple monitors.

Pamac, Manjaro's graphical package manager

In addition to desktop environment updates, the Manjaro development team has also enhanced Pamac , the distribution's graphical package manager.

Pamac is ported to libalpm 6.1 , the latest version of the Arch Linux package management library.

This update allows Pamac to leverage libalpm's native download agent, thereby improving download performance for scripts built from Arch User Repository (AUR) and Manjaro's binary repository.

upgrade

Existing users of Manjaro Linux 23.1 "Vulcan" can update their installation by executing the command sudo pacman -Syu in the terminal emulator or through the default graphical package manager.
