We’re back with another open-source project that we’re incredibly excited to share with you all. This time, it’s all about visual identity and user representation: @simplr-sh/avatar. In the world of web development, visual consistency and personalized user experiences are paramount. And a key component of that is the user avatar. But let's be honest, handling avatar generation can sometimes be tedious. You need to think about placeholders, styling, and potentially complex backend logic. That’s why we set out to create @simplr-sh/avatar, a TypeScript library that makes the process seamless and delightful.

Why We Created @simplr-sh/avatar

The inspiration for this project came from the desire to have a simple, yet elegant, way of generating avatars without the need for image uploads or complex APIs. We wanted something that was performant, customizable, and just looked good. The incredible work by the Vercel team in their avatar component was a big influence, and we wanted to offer a similar solution, but focused specifically on gradient-based avatars with text overlays.
