Fantasian Neo Dimension: Equipment Upgrade Guide
While you will get plenty of weapons and armour in Act 1 of Fantasian Neo Dimension that act as straight upgrades, that isn't the case in Act 2. These pieces of equipment become rarer and come with stats that might make you want to choose one over the other.
Thankfully, almost every weapon and armour in Act 2 can be made viable through the upgrading system. However, this system is something you could miss for quite a while or even entirely if you're speeding through the game. It's incredibly valuable, especially for the later bosses, so it's worth investing in your favourite weapons.
How To Unlock Equipment Upgrading
Like many of the game's deeper systems, equipment upgrading doesn't unlock until Act 2, though requires some extra legwork on top of that too. Equipment upgrading is done at one of the consoles in the courtyard of the Secret Base, though this functionality isn't available until the base is repopulated.
And how do you do this? Well, you have to save some of the robots hidden across the Human Realm. There are quite a few to find, though you only have to save three of them for the upgrading system to unlock.
While the computer in the Secret Base gives you hints towards a specific robot, you can find them in any order that you want.
After this, the computer outside now gives you the option to upgrade both weapons and armour in exchange for some money and certain materials. There are no more additions to the upgrading system to unlock, so you can happily improve whatever piece of equipment you want now.
How Does Upgrading Equipment Work?
A specific caveat to the upgrading system is that you can't actually upgrade every piece of equipment. Only items with a yellow title can be upgraded. This means the majority of items acquired in Act 1 are excluded from this, though there are still plenty more to be found in this act that are all viable.
Prickle's first weapon is upgradable, so you'll always have one weapon you can test out the system on.
There are a select few items from Act 2, mainly weapons, that can't be upgraded. This is due to their unique effects. For example, Valrika's Anima Globe increases in power with the more enemies she has cumulatively defeated. Without special conditions like this, then it is typically upgradable.
For every other item, upgrading is a simple process. You choose the item to be upgraded, it shows you the required money and materials, what its new stats and effects will be upon upgrade, and that's it. The amount of times a weapon is upgradable is variable. Some will only be upgraded twice, while some can go up to five times.
For the weapons that can be upgraded to a fifth tier, these will typically change name as they are upgraded as well., and require rarer materials as well. For example, Leo's Tyrfing will become Ragnarok after being upgraded enough.
Keep in mind that after a weapon is upgraded, you cannot downgrade it, or ever get the materials used in it refunded.
Every Type Of Upgrade Item
While the upgrade system is nice and simple, finding the materials is not so easy. There is only a finite amount of the materials found in chests around the world, and they are never sold in shops, even the lowly Whetstones. As such, be specific about the weapons you upgrade, or you'll have to go through quite a lot of grinding to get the materials you need.
Here's every upgrading material, and where to find them.
- Whetstone - Chests, and enemies in the Human Realm.
- Order Motes - Chests, and certain enemies in the Human Realm.
- Chaos Clay - Chests, and enemies in the Chaos Realm.
- Deus Augite - Chests, and enemies in the God Realm.
- Void Marble - Defeating bosses in the Outer Void Realm.
- Yim's Tears - Defeating bosses in the Inner Void Realm.
Whetstones, Order Motes, and Chaos Clay can also be farmed from enemies in the God Realm.
The Void Marble and Yim's Tears are exclusive to incredibly challenging post-game bosses and are not acquirable by any other means. You won't need to worry about upgrading your equipment to that level unless you plan on challenging those bosses.
Deus Augite is the limit that you'll be upgrading to in the base game, with anything beyond that only necessary (and practically available) until New Game Plus anyway.
