The APT Phu Quoc 2024 Main Event was a record-breaking success, attracting 795 entries (400 unique) and generating a massive prize pool of VN₫ 21.57 Billion (~$906,000). This remarkable turnout marked a 56% increase in entries and a 46% surge in prize money compared to last year’s Main Event.

With late registrations concluding on Day 2, the total entries reached an impressive 795 (400 unique), surpassing last year's 507 entries by a significant 56 percent. While falling short of the ambitious VND 25 billion (~$1 million) guarantee, the turnout itself generated a massive VND 21.57 billion (~$906,000) —an astounding 46 percent increase from the APT Phu Quoc 2023 Main Event.

The Main Event kicked off with four starting flights, which saw 292 players survive to advance to Day 2. But the action didn’t stop there! Another 42 players, including two from India, jumped in on Day 2, bringing the total number of Day 2 contenders to 331. These players battled it out over ten 60-minute levels for a piece of the biggest Main Event prize pool in APT Phu Quoc history.

Several players who entered Day 2 with top stacks fell short of advancing further, including Noparat Kongjai, Angunsri Suchart, and Nevan Chang. Chang’s run ended in dramatic fashion, as he and Cao Tran Ngoc were eliminated simultaneously on the money bubble. The “double-bubble” bust-out saw Chang and Ngoc split the 119th place payout, with each pocketing a consolation prize of VN₫ 28.125 Million.

Day 3 of the Main Event began with 50 players, all with their eyes on the title. The day concluded with the elimination of South Korea’s Dongyeol Choi in 10th place, who took home VN₫ 288.75 Million (~$11,370). Choi’s exit set the stage for the official final table, where the remaining nine players would compete for the coveted APT Phu Quoc Main Event title.

The final table kicked off on Monday, November 15, at the Corona Resort & Casino in Phu Quoc, Vietnam. The final nine players returned to battle for the title and a staggering first-place prize of VN₫ 4.710 Billion (~$185,430). Among them was India’s Deepankur Gupta, who entered the final table sixth in chips with 3.38 Million (68 big blinds).

The final table commenced at a brisk pace, with Pham Ngoc Quoc Bao being the first to hit the rail. He moved all-in with pocket jacks early in Level 29, only to find himself up against Jinlong Hu’s big slick. The board ran out , giving Hu two pair, aces and queens, and sending Bao to the rail in ninth place for a VN₫ 395 Million (~$15,660) payday.

The eliminations continued at a rapid clip. Nineteen hands later, Chu Hao Zhang couldn’t hold on any longer, bowing out in eighth place after his couldn’t beat Do Tien Vu’s on a bricked-out board. Zhang collected VN₫ 494 Million (~$19,660) for his efforts.

With seven players remaining, the pace of play slowed down considerably. Short-stacked David Erquiaga managed to double up through Hu twice and even managed to eliminate Hao Zhao Wang in sixth place when his held against Wang’s on a runout that gave Vu two pair. Wang took home VN₫ 738 Million (~$29,390) for his sixth-place finish.

Erquiaga’s good fortune didn’t last long. Just three hands later, his ran into Hu’s on a board that flopped a pair of queens. Erquiaga was left drawing dead on the turn, and his elimination in fifth place earned him a VN₫ 988 Million (~$39,330) payday.

The final four players went on a 20-minute break before returning to resume play three-handed. Hu continued to dominate the chip counts, while Vu and Junseok Oh fought valiantly to stay alive. Oh managed to double up through Hu once, but it wasn’t enough to close the massive chip gap.

Eventually, Vu couldn’t resist putting his short stack in the middle preflop with , and Hu snap-called with . The flop gave Hu two pair, and after some
