Deal | Samsung gives away free Odyssey G3 gaming monitors with 44%-off Odyssey G9 and Ark OLED and mini-LED displays
Samsung's Odyssey G9 gaming monitor range offers some of the best — and most expensive— high-refresh OLED and mini-LED gaming monitors around. Fortunately, a current sale on Samsung's site has brought those exorbitant prices down by as much as 46%. To sweeten the deal, Samsung is also giving away a 180 Hz, 24- or 27-inch Odyssey G3 gaming monitor with each of the flagship Odyssey gaming monitors mentioned below.
The monitors Samsung is giving away are the 24-inch and 27-inch Odyssey G3 G30D gaming monitors. While they're nothing super special, they serve very well as secondary displays and represent $149.99 and $179.99 in additional savings over the up to $1,129.00 discount on the flagship monitors. Both the Odyssey G3 monitors are FHD and have refresh rates of 180 Hz, with AMD FreeSync there to smooth out any dips in frame rates. However, Samsung is bundling these mid-range VA gaming monitors with some of its best premium OLED and mini-LED gaming monitors, with a massive discount on top.
The cheapest Odyssey gaming monitor on sale is the 49-inch Odyssey G9 G95C DQHD 240Hz ultrawide display, which boasts an impressive 240 Hz refresh rate,5,120×1,440 pixel resolution, and DisplayHDR 1000 certification. It has been discounted from $1,499.99 to a whopping $799.99 on Samsung's online store and comes with the 24-inch Odyssey G3 as a free add-on. The Odyssey G9 G95C claims a maximum brightness of 450 nits in SDR mode, although the VESA DisplayHDR 1000 rating means it should be able to reach as much as 1,000 nits in HDR mode. In addition to the respectable brightness and 32:9 aspect ratio, the G95C boasts 92.5% coverage of the DCI-P3 colour space.
At $1,099.99 is the 240 Hz, 49-inch Odyssey G9 OLED G95SC, which is the OLED version of the aforementioned G95C, meaning it features deeper, uniform blacks, a higher contrast ratio, and virtually instantaneous response times. During the limited-time sale, the G9 OLED G95SC is discounted from $1,999.98 and comes bundled with the same 24-inch Odyssey G3 monitor. It has the same 5,120×1,440 pixel resolution, and RTings's review of the OLED G95SC found brightness levels of 429 nits in a real scene, which peaked at 1,002 nits in a 2% window.
The much larger57-inch Odyssey Neo G9 4K mini-LED monitor is also discounted from $2729.98 to $1,599.99, and it boasts an even sharper7,680×2,160 pixel resolution. It also has a 240 Hz refresh rate with a claimed 1 ms response time, 420 nits peak brightness, which can peak at 1,000 nits in HDR content thanks to the HDR 1000 certification, and a solid 95% DCI-P3 colour space coverage.
In addition to the three super wide monitors, Samsung has also discounted the 55-inchOdyssey Ark 2nd Gen 4K Quantum mini-LED display by 44% to a final price of $1,799.99. This one has a more conventional 16:9 aspect ratio and 3,840×2,160 resolution. Thanks to the Quantum Matrix mini-LED backlight, the 55-inch Odyssey Ark reaches a typical brightness of 600 nits. It has a refresh rate of 165 Hz and is rated to cover 95% of the DCI-P3 colour gamut.
All of the high-end Odyssey gaming monitors on sale also have features like picture-in-picture, picture-by-picture, and tilt-, height-, and swivel-adjustable stands. In addition to the ergonomic features, they also all feature Nvidia G-Sync and AMD FreeSync compatibility, making them excellent all-round gaming and productivity monitors, as long as you have the GPU horsepower to run games at challenging high resolutions.
