Garmin confirms AMOLED display for new Fenix 8 smartwatch
The Garmin Fenix 8 smartwatch has appeared in official Garmin documentation for the first time. A UK Declaration of Conformity (DoC), issued on July 9th, has been discovered for a 47mm version of the upcoming wearable with model number A04806.
The DoC confirms that the Fenix 8 will have an AMOLED display, switching from the Memory-in-Pixel (MIP) technology used for the Fenix 7. The AMOLED screen should offer a higher resolution and refresh rate, as well as enhanced contrast, though it would likely impact the smartwatch's battery life. Some fans may, therefore, be disappointed with Garmin's decision to use AMOLED. However, the new Fenix E smartwatch is expected to retain the MIP display.
On top of that, the file reveals several features of the Fenix 8. These appear to include GNSS positioning and support for diving accessories to gauge depth and measure time. The Fenix 8 and Fenix E smartwatches are expected to launch at some point before IFA Berlin, which starts on September 6th. Other sources have recently leaked pricing and images of the Garmin Fenix 8 and Garmin Fenix E wearables.
