Michael Saylor Flags Bitcoin's Volatility As A Feature, Not A Bug
The MicroStrategy co-founder, Michael Saylor offered his insights on Bitcoin’s volatility in a recent interview on Bloomberg Open Interest.
MicroStrategy co-founder and Executive Chairman Michael Saylor has addressed concerns about Bitcoin’s volatility during macroeconomic turmoil.
In an interview with Bloomberg Open Interest, Saylor offered his insights on the matter, aiming to reassure investors about the viability of using Bitcoin as a hedge against economic volatility and a store of value.
Highlighting Bitcoin’s unique properties, Saylor stated that its volatility is a "feature, not a bug." He explained that while BTC’s volatility may lead to massive global credit and liquidation in the short term, it ultimately emerges as a superior asset in terms of performance and durability over the long term.
According to Saylor, Bitcoin’s functionality as "digital capital" superior to physical or financial capital makes it a volatile asset. He added that the physics and politics of BTC have closed and crippled all other markets.
Emphasizing Bitcoin’s potential to serve as a store of value, Saylor noted its superiority over physical or financial capital. He stated that Bitcoin is a better store of value because it offers financial freedom from counterparties.
"The reason it moves is because it’s functional. It’s digital capital and it’s superior to physical capital or financial capital. Bitcoin is a capital investment you can hold for decades that a corporation, competitor, counterparty, or country can’t take away from you."
In this regard, Saylor believes that the digital asset can serve as generational wealth at both the retail and institutional levels, including personal management funds. He noted that due to its decentralized nature, Bitcoin is paramount to any other long-term capital management in the world, despite its volatility.
Regarding the optimal time to invest in BTC, Michael Saylor stated that there is never a bad time to acquire the asset, comparing it to a real estate investment in Manhattan.
He went on to describe MicroStrategy’s BTC investment strategy, stating that the firm generally purchases Bitcoin whenever there is an opportunity and sufficient capital has been raised.
While Saylor maintains that there is no perfect time to buy BTC, he has stressed the importance of understanding seasons and market trends to navigate the crypto asset’s price fluctuations. As investors navigate these volatile times, Saylor statements offer a key perspective on the long-term value of Bitcoin.
