Kth Distinct String in an Array
2053. Kth Distinct String in an Array
Easy
A distinct string is a string that is present only once in an array.
Given an array of strings arr, and an integer k, return the kth distinct string present in arr. If there are fewer than k distinct strings, return an empty string "".
Note that the strings are considered in the order in which they appear in the array.
Example 1:
- Input: arr = ["d","b","c","b","c","a"], k = 2
- Output: "a"
- Explanation: The only distinct strings in arr are "d" and "a". "d" appears 1st, so it is the 1st distinct string. "a" appears 2nd, so it is the 2nd distinct string. Since k == 2, "a" is returned.
Example 2:
- Input: arr = ["aaa","aa","a"], k = 1
- Output: "aaa"
- Explanation: All strings in arr are distinct, so the 1st string "aaa" is returned.
Example 3:
- Input: arr = ["a","b","a"], k = 3
- Output: ""
- Explanation: The only distinct string is "b". Since there are fewer than 3 distinct strings, we return an empty string "".
Constraints:
- 1 <= k <= arr.length <= 1000
- 1 <= arr[i].length <= 5
- arr[i] consists of lowercase English letters.
Hint:
- Try 'mapping' the strings to check if they are unique or not.
Solution:
To solve this problem, we can follow these steps:
- Create a frequency map (associative array) to count the occurrences of each string in the given array.
- Iterate through the array to collect the distinct strings (strings that appear only once) in the order they appear.
- Check if the number of distinct strings is at least k. If yes, return the k-th distinct string; otherwise, return an empty string.
Let's implement this solution in PHP: 2053. Kth Distinct String in an Array
Explanation:
- Frequency Map: We first create a frequency map to count how many times each string appears in the array.
- ["d", "b", "c", "b", "c", "a"] results in ["d" => 1, "b" => 2, "c" => 2, "a" => 1]
- Collect Distinct Strings: We iterate through the array again, collecting strings that have a count of 1 in the frequency map.
- For ["d", "b", "c", "b", "c", "a"], we get ["d", "a"].
- Return Result: We check if there are at least k distinct strings and return the k-th one if it exists, otherwise return an empty string.
The provided code handles the problem efficiently within the given constraints.

PHP and Python each have their own advantages, and choose according to project requirements. 1.PHP is suitable for web development, especially for rapid development and maintenance of websites. 2. Python is suitable for data science, machine learning and artificial intelligence, with concise syntax and suitable for beginners.

PHP is widely used in e-commerce, content management systems and API development. 1) E-commerce: used for shopping cart function and payment processing. 2) Content management system: used for dynamic content generation and user management. 3) API development: used for RESTful API development and API security. Through performance optimization and best practices, the efficiency and maintainability of PHP applications are improved.

In PHP, password_hash and password_verify functions should be used to implement secure password hashing, and MD5 or SHA1 should not be used. 1) password_hash generates a hash containing salt values to enhance security. 2) Password_verify verify password and ensure security by comparing hash values. 3) MD5 and SHA1 are vulnerable and lack salt values, and are not suitable for modern password security.

PHP is a scripting language widely used on the server side, especially suitable for web development. 1.PHP can embed HTML, process HTTP requests and responses, and supports a variety of databases. 2.PHP is used to generate dynamic web content, process form data, access databases, etc., with strong community support and open source resources. 3. PHP is an interpreted language, and the execution process includes lexical analysis, grammatical analysis, compilation and execution. 4.PHP can be combined with MySQL for advanced applications such as user registration systems. 5. PHP handles file uploads through the $\_FILES variable. The methods to ensure security include: 1. Check upload errors, 2. Verify file type and size, 3. Prevent file overwriting, 4. Move files to a permanent storage location.

PHP type prompts to improve code quality and readability. 1) Scalar type tips: Since PHP7.0, basic data types are allowed to be specified in function parameters, such as int, float, etc. 2) Return type prompt: Ensure the consistency of the function return value type. 3) Union type prompt: Since PHP8.0, multiple types are allowed to be specified in function parameters or return values. 4) Nullable type prompt: Allows to include null values and handle functions that may return null values.

PHP is still dynamic and still occupies an important position in the field of modern programming. 1) PHP's simplicity and powerful community support make it widely used in web development; 2) Its flexibility and stability make it outstanding in handling web forms, database operations and file processing; 3) PHP is constantly evolving and optimizing, suitable for beginners and experienced developers.

PHP and Python each have their own advantages, and the choice should be based on project requirements. 1.PHP is suitable for web development, with simple syntax and high execution efficiency. 2. Python is suitable for data science and machine learning, with concise syntax and rich libraries.
