Apple releases iOS 18 Beta 4 with these new features and changes
Apple today released the fourth beta version of iOS 18. Although this version does not introduce major new features, it has made minor changes and optimizations to many features in the operating system. Apple plans to continue updating iOS 18 over the next few months, with an official release expected this fall. We’ve rounded up all the changes found in iOS 18 Beta 4 so far.
First, Apple has added new light mode and dark mode wallpaper options to CarPlay, which echo the new wallpapers on iPhone. On the settings front, Apple has added a new way to access iCloud settings in the Settings app. The iCloud option now sits alongside the App Store, Game Center, and Wallet. Users can still access iCloud settings by clicking on Apple Account and selecting iCloud.
In the camera settings, the new version adds a "Control Menu" option, which is under "Keep Settings". The control menu retains the camera tools you used previously, rather than showing all camera control options when using the camera app.
The "Hidden Folder" design in App Library has also changed. The icon that was previously a crossed-out eye is now a blank app square, making it less visible.
Dark mode and light mode icons now sync with automatic settings on iPhone. When using the Auto setting, icons will darken when Dark Mode is activated and lighten when Dark Mode is turned off. This didn't work in previous betas.
Apple has also tweaked the Stock App’s icon design, making the lines softer and removing the white shadow at the bottom.
While this is more of a macOS Sequoia feature than an iOS 18 feature, you can now change the size of your iPhone window on your Mac display when mirroring your iPhone using macOS Sequoia Beta 4.
A new Bluetooth switch has been added to the control center, but it has not been enabled properly yet. Apple has also added a Silent Mode/Silent switch and an Eye Mirroring option for Accessibility. Also, the option to open the Music Control Center has been removed. These changes also apply to lock screen controls.
In AssistiveTouch, new "Typing to Siri" and "Apple Watch Mirroring" options have been added.
There are also more references to Apple Intelligence, suggesting that Apple is continuing to prepare to implement Apple Intelligence features in beta in the near future.
