A TikTok user is urging people to check their wallets after revealing a rare London 2012 Olympics 50p coin could be worth a small fortune.

The Table Tennis 50p coin from the 2012 event was part of a set of 29 released in 2011, a year before the iconic games.

While some of the coins can fetch a hefty price tag, the Table Tennis coin is worth a smaller amount.

TikTok user @CoinCollectingWizard is urging everyone to check their wallets after revealing the coin could be worth around £2 in circulated condition and about £5 in brand new condition.

Discussing the coin, he said: "Almost 1.2million coins dated 2011 were struck to enter circulation.

"The coin features two people playing table tennis or ping pong if you prefer. Table tennis made its Olympic debut at Seoul 1988.

"The first player to score 11 points wins each game based on best of seven games for singles and best of five for team matches.

"If you are lucky enough to come across this table tennis 50p, then you are looking at around £2 in circulated condition and around £5 in brand new condition."

The Olympic 50p designs were picked from a massive public competition back in 2009, with an eye-watering 30,000 entries just for the Table Tennis design.

After sharing the find, the post quickly went viral, bagging loads of likes and a flurry of comments.
