Jeremy Tepper, a jack-of-all-trades who left his mark on music, journalism, and the coin-op industry, passed away on June 14 at the age of 60.
Those in the vending industry knew him as the former managing editor of Vending Times. He later founded Diesel Only Records, a label promoting country rock and alternative music, and even fronted a band himself. His passion for jukeboxes led him to publish Street Beat, a successful trade journal.
"Jeremy joined Vending Times in 1989 as associate editor, and was named managing editor in 1990, about the same time I started selling ad space for our music and games section," Alicia Lavay, brand director at Networld Media Group and former president and publisher of Vending Times, told Vending Times via email.
"We were both just kids, working for an industry we loved. A few years later when Jeremy left to start his own publication, 'Street Beat,' my dad, Victor Lavay, then publisher of Vending Times, was so proud of him. Jeremy had 'moxie' and was never afraid to take a risk and my father admired that about him. He will certainly be missed by many."
Jeremy's journalism extended beyond vending, encompassing the Journal of Country Music and country music criticism. In 2004, he joined Sirius Satellite Radio, championing lesser-known country subgenres through the Outlaw Country channel.
Described by those who knew him as warm and generous, Jeremy's legacy will be cherished by those he impacted across music, journalism, and the coin-op world.
