Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Varanasi on June 18 to release the 17th installment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme, disbursing Rs 20,000 crore to over 9.3 crore farmers. The event will also see the certification of over 30,000 self-help groups as Krishi Sakhis.
Here's a summary of the key points:
PM Modi Commences Third Term by Authorizing Release of PM KISAN 17th Installment
Commencing his third term in office on June 10, PM Modi authorized the release of the 17th installment of the PM Kisan Nidhi, aiming to benefit 9.3 crore farmers with a total disbursement of around Rs 20,000 crore.
The PM Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme, launched in February 2019, provides an annual assistance of Rs 6,000 to farmers, disbursed in three equal installments of Rs 2,000 directly into their Aadhaar-seeded bank accounts.
Highlighting the government's focus on farmers, Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Shivraj Singh Chouhan stated that PM Modi has entrusted them with a 100-day plan. He announced the disbursement of the 17th installment of PM KISAN, amounting to more than Rs 20,000 crore, which will be credited to the accounts of over 9.26 crore beneficiary farmers by the Prime Minister himself.
With a single click of a button from Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, the funds will be disbursed. Chouhan emphasized the large-scale participation in the event, with 2.5 crore farmers expected to join virtually.
Moreover, 732 Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs), over 1 lakh Primary Agricultural Cooperative Societies, and 5 lakh Common Service Centres (CSCs) from across the country will participate to raise awareness among farmers.
During the event, Prime Minister Modi will also grant certificates to more than 30,000 Self Help Groups (SHGs) as Krishi Sakhis and will distribute certificates to five Krishi Sakhis as a token gesture.
Highlighting the impact of the scheme, Chouhan stated that the financial assistance will support farmers in meeting their agricultural and other incidental needs. He added that a farmer-centric digital infrastructure has ensured the benefits of the scheme reach all the farmers across the country without any involvement of middlemen.
Maintaining absolute transparency in registering and verifying beneficiaries, the Government of India has disbursed over Rs 3.04 lakh crore to more than 11 crore farmers across the nation. With this release, the total amount transferred to the beneficiaries since the inception of the scheme will cross well over Rs 3.24 lakh crore, he said.
Chouhan also mentioned that several Union Ministers will be visiting 50 KVKs to interact with farmers and raise awareness about the various schemes of the Department. They will also distribute certificates to the trained Krishi Sakhis of the area.
